IMRF Preliminary 2023 Investment Return and Funded Status

IMRF investment assets increased in 2023, and its funded status remained top tier.


Financial Highlights:

 

  • IMRF earned a net investment return of about 13.2%.


  • IMRF investment assets grew from $47.8 billion at the beginning of 2023 to about $52.2 billion at the end of 2023, an increase of about $4.4 billion for the year.


  • IMRF's actuarial funded status is strong at about 97.7%.

IMRF Board of Trustees News

Sue Stanish has been re-elected as Executive Trustee. IMRF Employers voted in the Executive Trustee election this fall, and the Board certified the results of the election at their meeting on Friday, December 15.

 

Stanish, Director of Finance for the Naperville Park District, has served on the IMRF Board for the past 10 years. She served as Board Vice President in 2016, Board President in 2017, Board Secretary in 2021, and has been the chairperson or vice chairperson of multiple IMRF committees including the Investment Committee, Audit Committee, and Legislative Committee.

 

Her new term will run from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2028.

2024 Board Officers

IMRF's Board of Trustees elected their 2024 Board Officers. Peter Stefan is President, Louis Kosiba is Vice President, and Sue Stanish is Secretary.

Employee Trustee Peter Stefan has served on the Board since 2021 and is Finance Director/Treasurer of the Village of Lake in the Hills.

 

Annuitant Trustee Louis Kosiba has served on the Board since 2021. He is the retired Executive Director of IMRF. 

 

Executive Trustee Sue Stanish has served on the Board since 2014 and is the Director of Finance for the Naperville Park District.
