Competitive Academic Agreement Program
DOT PHMSA FY2023 Competitive Academic Agreement Program (CAAP), #693JK323NF003. CFDA #20.724. Up to $1,000,000. Proposal Deadline: 05/19/2023.

PHMSA hereby requests applications from nonprofit institutions of higher education for Competitive Academic Agreement Program (CAAP) grant funding to research innovative solutions in three pipeline safety topic areas.

PHMSA developed, and launched, the Competitive Academic Agreement Program (CAAP) in 2013 to spur innovation by enabling academic research to focus on high-risk, high-reward solutions to a wide range of pipeline safety challenges. Through this program, PHMSA partners with universities and academia on research to expose students to pipeline safety challenges and illustrate how their technical discipline is needed in the pipeline safety field.  To date, CAAP has awarded 67 projects with investments totaling approximately $19.9 million in federal support.

PHMSA is encouraging Minority Serving Institutions to participate in the CAAP. This will improve the diversity of research projects currently funded under CAAP and will support PHMSA’s efforts to develop further research capabilities surrounding environmental engineering and renewable energy transportation.
The DOT PHMSA would like to invite students and professors to participate in our CAAP. If you feel that the CAAP would be a good fit for the research objectives of your university, please join one of our virtual information sessions to discuss our program in depth.

Career Development Award in Aging
Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging, RFA-AG-24-014. CFDA # 93.866. $225,000 in direct costs in any year. Total project period may not exceed 5 years. Application Deadline: 10/20/2023 or 10/18/2024

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites early-stage physicians and other health professional investigators with a commitment to aging and/or aging-related diseases to apply for this award with the goal of advancing their research and leadership skills in their specialty and in the broader field of aging and geriatrics research.

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is pursuing this initiative to recruit early-stage investigators who have successfully competed for a research grant and begun to establish research programs and who, through this award, will be ready to assume leadership roles in their field of expertise and be poised to change theory, practice, and health outcomes related to the health of older individuals. Unlike other mentored K awards, candidates for this award must have received competitively awarded research support as a Program Director/Primary Investigator (PD/PI) at the faculty level or have otherwise leveraged faculty-level research support to develop an independent line of research. They must show evidence of leadership in the clinical or research domain.

This FOA is designed specifically for applicants proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or a separate ancillary clinical trial. Applicants to this FOA are permitted to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor.

Applicants proposing a clinical trial or an ancillary clinical trial as a lead investigator should apply to the companion FOA, RFA-AG-24-015.
