DoD Faculty Fellowship Program |

The VBFF program is sponsored by the Basic Research Office, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (USD (R&E)). VBFF supports innovative basic research within academia, as well as opportunities intended to develop the next generation of scientists and engineers for the defense workforce.
The Office of Naval Research (ONR) manages the VBFF program for USD (R&E). To accomplish this task, ONR is soliciting proposals for the VBFF program through this FOA. This FOA seeks distinguished researchers for the purpose of conducting innovative basic research in areas of interest to the DoD and fostering long-term relationships between the VBFF Fellows and the DoD.
VBFF is oriented towards bold and ambitious "blue sky" research that may lead to extraordinary outcomes such as revolutionizing entire disciplines, creating entirely new fields, or disrupting accepted theories and perspectives.
The objectives of the program are to:
- Support unclassified basic scientific and engineering research that could be the foundation for future revolutionary new capabilities for DoD.
- Educate and train student and post-doctoral researchers for the defense workforce.
- Foster long-term relationships between university researchers and the DoD.
- Familiarize university researchers and their students with DoD's current and projected future challenges.
- Increase the number of talented technical experts that DoD can call upon.
Faculty with tenure at the time of proposal submission, with a record of substantial scientific contributions and the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to conduct the proposed research as the principal investigator (PI), are invited to submit an application.

NASA Hubble Fellowship Program |
|
The NHFP supports postdoctoral scientists performing independent research that contributes to NASA Astrophysics (see https://science.nasa.gov/astrophysics/ for more information). The research may be theoretical, observational, and/or instrumental. If your application is successful and you accept our offer, you will become an NHFP Einstein, Hubble or Sagan fellow depending on the area of your research. In this way, we are continuing the legacy of those three earlier programs, and through joint management of the program by STScI, in collaboration with the Chandra X-ray Center and the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute.
The NHFP is open to applicants of any nationality who have or will have completed all requirements for their doctoral degree on or after January 1, 2019 in astronomy, physics or related disciplines. (Eligibility this cycle extends back one year farther than normal, to help mitigate effects of the pandemic.) The duration of the Fellowship is up to three years: an initial one-year appointment, and two annual renewals contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of NASA funds.

Letters of reference are due Thursday, November 10, 2022. (Note: the applications are due one week before the letters.)
Offers will be made in early February 2023 and new appointments should begin on or about September 1, 2023. NHFP Fellowships are open to English-speaking citizens of all nations. All applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, creed, color, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation or national origin.
