NSF EPSCoR
EPSCoR Research Infrastructure Improvement Program: Bridging EPSCoR Communities - NSF 22-536 - Up to $1,000,000 total per award with an award duration of up to 5 years. Full Proposal Deadline: 04/04/2022

(This is not a limited submission. PI's are restricted to be the PI on only one RII-BEC project, but there is no limit on the number of projects that an individual may be listed as co-PI.)

In response to the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (H.R. 1319, sec. 7502), the National Science Foundation (NSF) established the EPSCoR Research Infrastructure Improvement Program: Bridging EPSCoR Communities (RII-BEC) initiative. The RII-BEC initiative seeks to enable institutions in EPSCoR jurisdictions to set up bridge programs to facilitate the transitions of Affected Groups (e.g., women, underrepresented groups, research trainees, and graduate fellows) from one stage of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) training to the next, with particular focus on providing support for individuals from groups underrepresented in STEM and those transitioning from or to minority-serving institutions (MSIs) within EPSCoR jurisdictions.

The RII-BEC initiative will accept proposals that support those individuals most strongly affected by the pandemic at vulnerable career transition points (e.g., first two years of college, or preparation for entry into graduate programs and/or the STEM workforce) within EPSCoR jurisdictions. The RII-BEC initiative will provide up to $1,000,000 total per award for up to 5 years to support the strategic goal of reducing student attrition at these key junctures to improve future R&D competitiveness of EPSCoR jurisdictions. Proposals may include partnerships within and/or across two-year and four-year institutions (including community colleges). A key feature of projects will be a program strategy and plan for recruitment, mentoring, retention, and graduation of students (U.S. citizens, nationals, and permanent residents) in NSF-supported STEM fields, with specific efforts aimed at underrepresented groups in STEM.

The RII-BEC initiative is aligned with NSF’s commitment to increase access for underrepresented groups to the Nation’s STEM enterprise.
NASA
2022 National NASA EPSCoR Rapid Response Research Cooperative Agreement Notice (R3 CAN) - $100,000 total for a one-year project period with no match requirement - NSHE EPSCoR/SPO Letters of Intent Due: 01/10/2022

The National NASA EPSCoR Program has announced a new solicitation entitled “Rapid Response Research” (R3) program. The goal of this effort is to develop close collaborations among NASA, industry and university faculty to solve specific current NASA research challenges. It is anticipated that approximately 30 research proposals that will not exceed $100,000 each for a one-year project duration will be awarded to address a subset of the NASA topics listed in the National solicitation Appendices (download solicitation). Each jurisdiction may submit one proposal per NASA science office; i.e., listed in the solicitation as separate appendices (one proposal per appendix). Nevada may submit, through the NV NASA EPSCoR Office, up to 11 proposals, one for each appendix addressing just one of the research topics for that appendix.

We are therefore requesting that any NSHE faculty member interested in submitting a proposal first submit a letter of interest. If there are multiple faculty interested in a common topic area or multiple topic areas within one NASA science office division (appendix), we will request that the faculty consider collaborating on a single proposal. If collaboration is not an option, the NV NASA EPSCoR Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) will review the letters of interest and select the proposal(s) that will be submitted to the National solicitation.
Webinar about this solicitation will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2021 at 3:00 pm PT. Use this Microsoft Teams link to attend:  JOIN THE MEETING
