Land-Grant Institution
As one of the State of Nevada's land-grant institutions, for years UNLV has been serving the community by focusing on improving the lives of our diverse students and transforming our communities through education and engagement. UNLV is a member of the Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities. *In any of your proposal submissions, remember to state "land-grant institution University of Nevada, Las Vegas".

Highlights of some of the many land-grant programs at UNLV:
  • The Office of Continuing Education designs and delivers high quality non-credit programs, courses, workshops and seminars to both professionals and casual learners.
  • The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute offers more than 90 peer-led courses to retired and semi-retired students at a low membership cost. Classes on topics including current affairs, history, science, politics, the arts, philosophy and more.
  • Community2Campus helps non-traditional students complete their college or graduate degrees, offering scholarships and consultations, and coordinating all the Division of Education's for-credit courses during the fall and spring semesters. It also helps faculty members develop innovative, self-supporting, for-credit classes.
  • The Office of Economic Development works with public and private partners to address real-world needs and bringing life-changing products and services to market utilizing university resources and talent.
  • The Public lands Institute works to strengthen the national fabric essential for our public lands' protection, sustainability, multiple use and management.
  • The Center for Energy Research maintains the Nevada Regional Test Center (RTC) through a partnership with Sandia National Laboratories and the Southern Nevada Water Authority. The test facility provides a valuable test bed for validation of existing and emerging solar technologies.
  • Boosting engineering student retention through a NSF TRANSCEnD grant (Improving Undergraduate STEM Education program) with community cohesion building, coherent curriculum development and culturally-responsive faculty development.
  • The UNLV Food Pantry is a year-round resource that provides perishable and non-perishable food items to students, staff, and faculty who need additional support.
LAND-GRANT OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS


The goal of the Research Training Program is to increase the effectiveness and number of future environmental scientists and technicians by allowing trainees to collaborate with EPA-ORD scientists while conducting projects in a fully operational federal research laboratory. The overall goal is to train the next generation of environmental scientists and engineers to further the Agency’s mission to manage chemical risks and protect America's water.

ORD’s Consolidated Research/Training/Fellowships program supports research and development to: (1) determine the environmental effects of air quality, drinking water, water quality, hazardous waste, toxic substances, and pesticides; (2) identify, develop, and demonstrate effective pollution control techniques to prevent, reduce, and eliminate pollution; (3) perform risk assessments to characterize the potential adverse health effects of human exposures to environmental hazards; and (4) facilitate training and program participant support in these areas.

As part of its STAR program, EPA is asking the scientific community to propose systems-based research to better understand the cumulative health impacts of early lifestage (prenatal and childhood up to adolescence) exposures to multiple pollutants in conjunction with other relevant non-chemical stressors in underserved, rural agricultural communities in the United States. The proposed research should include the application and demonstration of advanced quantitative and qualitative measurement methods and data science approaches that integrate multidisciplinary and multidimensional information.

Applicants are strongly recommended to incorporate existing data (e.g., epidemiological, environmental, biological, toxicological, public health). The proposed research should be comprehensive and include specific vulnerabilities to pollutants, non-chemical environmental stressors, and modifying factors at selected lifestages (prenatal and childhood up to adolescence) for cumulative impacts as well as their linkage(s) to specific health outcome(s) resulting from early lifestage or childhood exposure.

ONR seeks a broad range of applications for augmenting existing and/or developing innovative solutions that directly maintain and/or cultivate a diverse, world-class Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce to maintain the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps’ technological superiority. The goal of proposed efforts must provide solutions that establish, build, and/or maintain STEM educational pathways and workforce opportunities for diverse U.S. citizens directly relevant to ONR science and technology areas.

As the capacity of the Department of the Navy (DON) Science and Technology (S&T) workforce is interconnected with STEM education and outreach, ONR recognizes the need to support efforts that can jointly improve STEM student outcomes and align education and outreach efforts with Naval S&T current and future workforce needs. This announcement explicitly encourages projects that improve the capacity of education systems and communities to create impactful STEM educational experiences for students of all ages and the naval-related workforce. Projects must aim to increase engagement in STEM, from students to the current workforce, and enhance people with needed Naval STEM skills, knowledge and abilities. ONR encourages applications to utilize current STEM educational research for informing project design and advancing STEM careers and opportunities of naval relevance.

This FOA is specifically seeking STEM education and outreach projects that address scientific and technical areas identified in the following thrust areas. Project scope may range in size and complexity. While not a formal requirement or program focus of this FOA, applicants are strongly encouraged to consider under-represented and under-served populations including women and minorities in project plans. Special audience priority areas may include, but not be limited to, military connected students, veteran initiatives, and education systems integral to naval science and technology.
