Call for Proposals: Troesh Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research Grants
The Troesh Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Lee Business School seeks proposals from around the campus for outstanding research projects that shed light on entrepreneurship and innovation. The grants are intended to support a wide range of research topics from various academic disciplines, including collaborative research across UNLV units and interdisciplinary research. The deadline for proposal submission is April 30, 2022

The faculty supported by Troesh grants have achieved great success since the inception of the grant program in 2020. Some outcomes include, as of March 2022:
  • 3 faculty (LEE Business School) with 4 acceptances/publications in top-tier journals in 2021
  • Faculty in Life Sciences (College of Sciences) and Computer Science (College of Engineering) brought in funding of more than $175,000 to UNLV
  • Other honors and awards including “the 2021 Best Research to Practice by the American Public Health Association” (Public Health) and semifinalist for the 2021 Financial Management Association (FMA) conference best paper (LEE Business School).
Research Security On-Line Training Modules
The National Science Foundation, in partnership with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking proposals for the development of on-line training modules designed to promote the understanding of research security for researchers and other key personnel whose work is supported by federally funded research awards at awardee organizations (see NSF 22-576). This training is an essential step toward mitigating foreign government risks and threats to U.S. government-funded research and may be used to partially fulfill the research security program requirement in NSPM-33.

The purpose of this modular training is to enhance awareness and to provide recipients of federal research funding with on-line training on the existing and emerging risks and threats to the global research ecosystem—and the knowledge and resources necessary to protect against such risks and threats. This training is intended to be an important component to securing federally funded research, while maintaining the current, open, and transparent global research ecosystem. The solicitation supports the development of training modules (curriculum and technical solutions) to be made publicly available and intended to increase the security and integrity of U.S. federally funded research by providing a wider knowledge base on the application of research security measures in the proposal and award process.

A brief overview of program goals will be presented and proposers will have the opportunity to ask questions of NSF research security and policy experts. The webinar will take place on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. EDT. Registration is required at: https://nsf.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_v9iEWXo9QZOn4l8GAddzKw

BLM Nevada Wildlife Resource Management

The BLM Nevada Wildlife Program helps ensure self-sustaining populations and a natural abundance and diversity of wildlife on public lands for the enjoyment and use of present and future generations. The program is responsible for maintaining, restoring, and conserving species and their habitats in cooperation with State and local governments, Tribal governments, Federal and State agencies, private landowners, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). BLM-managed public lands are home to thousands of mammals, reptiles, avian, amphibian, and invertebrate species over some of our nation's most ecologically diverse and essential habitat. The program works with partners and cooperating agencies/governments to protect biodiversity; identify, conserve, and restore priority habitats; and promote resiliency to climate change and environmental stressors, including drought, wildland fire, unusual weather events, and insects/disease.
