NIH Pain Therapeutics
NIH HEAL Initiative: Discovery of Biomarkesrs and Biomarker Signatures to Facilitate Clinical Trials for Pain Therapeutics (UG3/UH3 Clinical Trial Optional, RFA-NS-22-050 - Application budgets are limited to <$500,000 in direct costs per year for the UG3 phase and up to $1,500,000 in direct costs per year of the UH3 phase. Applicants may seek two years of UG3 funding. The UH3 phase cannot exceed three years, since the total period of the UG3/UH3 award cannot be more than 5 years. Application Deadline: 10/13/2022

A total of 13 institutes and offices of the National Institutes of Health invite applications for their HEAL initiative - discovery of biomarkers and biomarker signatures to facilitate clinical trials for pain therapeutics (UG3/UH3 clinical trial optional) funding opportunity. This supports research that promotes the discovery of candidate biomarkers or biomarker signatures for pain that can be used to facilitate the testing of non-opioid pain therapeutics in phase II clinical trials. This initiative aims to deliver therapeutic response prediction or monitoring candidate pain biomarkers or biomarker signatures that are ready for definitive analytical and clinical validation appropriate for use in clinical trial design or decision-making in clinical practice. This opportunity uses a UG3/UH3 phased innovation award mechanism. The UG3 phase will support preparatory studies and the UH3 phase will support continued method development, algorithm development and further analytical, biological, and clinical validation. Investigators are encouraged to form collaborations and seek additional consultants as needed for the project.

NIH Biomedical Technology
NIH Biomedical Technology Development and Dissemination Center (RM1 - Clinical Trial Not Allowed), PAR-20-104 - The maximum budget that may be requested is $850,000 in direct costs per year, excluding equipment and consortium F&A costs. Applications requesting more than this amount will not be reviewed. Because of the technology-intensive nature of these Centers, there may be a need to acquire specialized equipment. Equipment requests are expected to vary with the nature of the technology development projects proposed. Funds for such specialized equipment may be requested in excess of the $850,000 operating limit if well justified. Application Deadline: 01/26/2023

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages grant applications for national Biomedical Technology Development and Dissemination (BTDD) Centers. The BTDD program supports the development of technologies once their feasibility has been established and the dissemination of these technologies to the wider biomedical research community. The program encourages investigators to propose projects that address any of the biomedical research areas within the mission of NIGMS. The Centers are required to make their technologies available to the research community in a sustainable manner, to provide user training, and to disseminate the Center’s technologies and results. Centers should be at the leading edge of their field with respect to both technology development and engagement of the relevant research community. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact NIGMS staff at least 10 weeks prior to the application due date to ascertain whether the proposed project is appropriate for an NIGMS BTDD Center.

Amazon Postdoctoral Science Cohort

The Amazon Postdoctoral Science Program provides recent PhD graduates with a formal avenue to gain industry experience, apply their subject matter expertise, and gain mentorship from established Amazon scientists. Postdoctoral scientists will explore new research ideas, accelerate scientific innovation and impact, and publish their work in peer-reviewed scientific literature. The program is designed for individuals who received their PhD in the past two years and want to gain industry experience. It advances postdoctoral scientists’ career development through industry exposure, publishing research, and mentorship from the Amazon Science community.
 
Details and Qualifications
Postdoc roles are full-time, one-year commitments; postdocs cannot have dual employment during their time at Amazon.
 
The qualifications for the program are:
  • PhD in a relevant field, received within two years of starting the program;
  • Proven publication record;
  • Experience in data science and quantitative research; and
  • Proficiency in technologies relevant to the subfield

NSHE UROP


The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) is now accepting applications for the Academic Year 2022-2023 Undergraduate Research Opportunity (UROP) scholarship program to promote undergraduate research in all NSHE institutions.

Focus: The UROP program promotes intensive undergraduate research opportunities for university students. Through these research experiences, our goal is to enhance the recruitment and retention of undergraduates in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines, particularly those related to fire science.

Eligibility: Undergraduate students enrolled full time (12 credits), during both Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, at any NSHE institution during the time they are conducting their research. Scholar must have an NSHE faculty mentor to supervise their research project.

Scholarship Amount: $4,000 for students and $750 for faculty mentors

Research Period: November 3, 2022 – May 31, 2023

Request for Proposals (RFP) - 2022/2023 Global Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) ASPIRE. The ASPIRE NASH program will evaluate submitted research proposals that cover areas in basic, clinical and translational sciences. The research proposals with innovative and the potential of high impact in advancing the learning about NASH will be encouraged. Application Due Date: 10/20/2022
