We invite you to join us at a networking event and pitch competition between Emory University and Georgia Tech on the topic of AI.Humanity with a Social Justice Lens. This event is open to researchers from both universities who currently work in AI and/or Social Justice and those who have an interest in working at the intersection of these areas.
The first half of the event will include structured networking activities to promote dialogue around social justice. Attendees will be encouraged to network, create teams, and brainstorm ideas for new projects. The event will culminate with each team pitching their ideas to receive on-the-spot funding.

The University Research Committee (URC) announces the annual Call for Proposals for funding to be used during 2023-2024 in the following categories:

All regular, full-time Emory faculty, of all ranks, are welcome to apply. URC eligibility follows criteria for “full-time faculty” as defined within each school. Postdocs, Fellows, Adjuncts, Research Track lines in some schools, and part-time faculty are not eligible.

National Institutes of Health | Time-Sensitive Opportunities for Health Research (R61/R33 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Supports research to understand health outcomes related to an unexpected and/or time-sensitive event (e.g., emergent environmental threat; pandemic; change in local, state, or national policy; natural disaster) through and accelerated review/award process. Applications must demonstrate that the research proposed is time-sensitive and must be initiated with minimum delay due to a limited window of opportunity to collect baseline data, answer key research questions, and/or prospectively evaluate a new policy or program.

Although there are no current funding opportunities posted, NIH recently announced it will invest $130 million over four years, to accelerate the widespread use of artificial intelligence (AI) by the biomedical and behavioral research communities. Through extensive collaboration across projects, Bridge2AI researchers will create guidance and standards for development of ethically sourced, state-of-the-art, AI-ready data sets that have the potential to help solve some of the most pressing challenges in human health.

Mechanism-Focused Research to Promote Adherence to Healthful Behaviors to Prevent Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and AD-Related Dementias (ADRD) (R61/R33 Clinical Trial Required)
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications to address psychological and interpersonal mechanisms driving adherence to behaviors or lifestyle changes relevant to the prevention of cognitive decline, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and Alzheimer's disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (ADRD). Mechanisms of adherence may be studied in new, early- to late-stage (including Stages I-IV) behavior change trials. Applications should seek to identify malleable, mechanistic, psychological, or interpersonal targets that, if modified, will strengthen adherence to, maintenance of, and continued/renewed engagement in behaviors that may promote cognitive health and prevent AD/ADRD.

Clinical Coordinating Center for the Network of Excellence in Neuroscience Clinical Trials (NEXT - CCC) (U01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA), issued by NINDS, is to invite applications to participate as a Clinical Coordinating Center (CCC) in the Network for Excellence in Neuroscience Clinical Trials. This clinical research network will develop and conduct multiple, scientifically sound, possibly biomarker-informed exploratory clinical trials evaluating the most promising therapies, whether from academic, foundation or industry discoveries. Examples include Phase 2 clinical trials and clinical research studies aimed at validating biomarkers and clinical outcomes in preparation for clinical trials, phase 2-3 trials if warranted by the nature of the studied population (such as rare diseases), and platform trials where applicable. In addition, the CCC will organize and maintain a gene therapy consortium, for the purposes of conduction early phase gene therapy trials in rare diseases.

The Office of the SVPR is pleased to offer proposal development support to principal investigators preparing proposals to secure shared research equipment through the National Science Foundation’s Major Research Instrumentation (NSF MRI) program, National Institute of Health’s S10 Shared Instrumentation Grant Program (SIG) or High-End Instrumentation Grant Program (HEI), or similar funding mechanism.
