Join us for an in-person, on-campus event that will include two exciting collaboration opportunities to connect researchers working in Neuroscience x Environmental Health.
The Office of SVPR, in partnership with HERCULES Exposome Research Center, Goizueta Institute @ Emory Brain Health, and the Department of Human Genetics, invites Emory researchers who work in environmental health, brain health and the neurosciences, and other related disciplines to attend. Faculty who do not currently work in this space but who are interested are also welcome.
NIH has formally expressed interest in promoting interdisciplinary research and addressing current gaps and opportunities in the intersection of these research areas.
This session will host Lightning Talk presenters who will share brief 10-minute presentations on their ongoing work and future research interests. Following Lighting Talks, we will host a Pitch Session where event attendees will network, collaborate, and brainstorm project ideas that can lead to extramural funding in this area. The event will culminate with each team pitching a real seed project, with up to three teams receiving small, on-the-spot funding to support new collaborations.

AI.Humanity with a Social Justice Lens w/ Georgia Tech

We invite you to join us at a networking event and pitch competition between Emory University and Georgia Tech on the topic of AI.Humanity with a Social Justice Lens. This event is open to researchers from both universities who currently work in AI and/or Social Justice and those who have an interest in working at the intersection of these areas.
The first half of the event will include structured networking activities to promote dialogue around social justice. Attendees will be encouraged to network, create teams, and brainstorm ideas for new projects. The event will culminate with each team pitching their ideas to receive on-the-spot funding.

National Institutes of Health | Time-Sensitive Opportunities for Health Research (R61/R33 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Supports research to understand health outcomes related to an unexpected and/or time-sensitive event (e.g., emergent environmental threat; pandemic; change in local, state, or national policy; natural disaster) through and accelerated review/award process. Applications must demonstrate that the research proposed is time-sensitive and must be initiated with minimum delay due to a limited window of opportunity to collect baseline data, answer key research questions, and/or prospectively evaluate a new policy or program.

Transformative Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Based Strategies to Identify Determinants of Exceptional Health and Life Span (R21/R33)
This program seeks applications to develop novel, transformative artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) strategies and computer automation to integrate, extract, and interpret multi-omic (i.e., genome, epigenome, transcriptome, proteome, metabolome, microbiome, phenome) data sets from human exceptional longevity (EL) cohorts and multiple non-human species that display a wide variation in life span, and to decipher the relationships between DNA, RNA, proteins, metabolites, and other cell variables, as well as links to disease risks and exceptionally healthy aging.

Advances in CPS will enable capability, adaptability, scalability, resiliency, safety, security, and usability that will expand the horizons of these critical systems.

Maintaining Immunity after Immunization (U01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
This program supports individual single-project cooperative agreements that undertake research to identify the requirements for induction and maintenance of durable protective immunity following vaccination against infectious agents. Applications are sought that propose to (1) define the immune mechanisms and components that lead to sustained immunity, and/or (2) identify common versus distinct durable immune mechanisms triggered by vaccines compared to natural infection. Findings from this research will contribute to a more complete understanding of the requirements for vaccine-induced durable protection.

Global Brain Nervous System Disorders Research Across the Lifespan (R01)
This program encourages applications for the conduct of innovative, collaborative research projects with low- and middle-income country (LMIC) institutions/ scientists on brain and other nervous system function and disorders throughout life, relevant to LMICs. The collaborative research programs are expected to contribute to the long-term goals of building and strengthening sustainable neuro-health research capacity in LMICs to address brain, nervous system and neuromuscular development, function and impairment throughout life and to lead to diagnostics, treatments, prevention and implementation strategies. The proposed work will also contribute to developing a base for research networking and evidence-based policy beyond the specific research project.

To help position Emory faculty for the launch of ARPA-H, the Office of the Sr. Vice President for Research, in consultation with the Office of the Provost, has created the ARPA-H seed funds program. These seeds are intended to lead to competitive ARPA-H proposals. In alignment with ARPA-H’s expected culture and processes, this seed funding aims to rapidly de-risk bold, revolutionary concepts in the biomedical and health sciences.
Given the unique culture of ARPA-H and its reliance on program managers to make funding decisions based on the Heilmeier Questions (and not peer review), awardees will receive tailored training and feedback on their responses to the Heilmeier Questions. During and after the conclusion of the seed project, seed recipients will work with the Office of Research Development to refine their ARPA-H pitch.
