ClimateWorks: Trends in Climate Change Mitigation Philanthropy
This just-released report by ClimateWorks summarizes recent trends in philanthropic giving for climate change mitigation and recommendations for the future. Philanthropic funding for climate mitigation has grown significantly in the past couple of years (a 20% increase from 2022 to 2023), but still accounts for less than 2% of philanthropic funding worldwide. The report also spotlights the growing focus among philanthropic funders on adaptation and resilience.

The report shows that philanthropic funding for disasters has grown over the last several years. Most of this funding is going to response and relief, with resilience, risk reduction, and mitigation making up just 2.1% of funding for philanthropic disasters.
