How does a CFRE benefit me?

A big thank you to Jill Rode, CFRE and Lauren Trujillo, CFRE for speaking to members and friends about earning the Certified Fund Raising Executive certification. Both provided valuable insight to why they chose to pursue their CFRE certification, what materials and resources they used to prepare for the exam, the benefits of now being CFRE certified as well as what it means for the sector.

Lauren shared that preparing for the test helped her identify what areas she should prioritize to strengthen her knowledge as fundraiser such as donor prospecting while Jill emphasized the value being CFRE brings not only to you as an individual but to the sector as the gold standard in being a fundraiser who seeks continuing education and practicing ethical decision making.

If you are interested in learning more about earning your CFRE, Lauren and Jill have offered to answer any of your questions. You can send those to [email protected]. You can also visit the CFRE website to learn more about earning your certification. The October 1 application deadline is coming up. To apply, you’ll need to meet eligibility requirements in three areas: Education, Professional Practice (years professionally fundraising), and Professional Performance.

Don’t forget that AFP members receive a 20% discount on CFRE initial certification and recertification.

Additionally, our friends at the Greater San Fernando Valley Chapter have a CFRE study session that meets weekly on Fridays at 2pm over Zoom. If you would like to learn more, please contact Jennifer Haake at [email protected]

October Taining

Ethical considerations are vital for fundraisers and leaders in nonprofit organizations. AFP members aspire to practice their profession with integrity and honesty to safeguard public trust and act according to the highest goals of their organizations. Yet, we sometimes face challenges related to gifts or donor requests that may challenge the values of the organizations we serve.

Our guest speaker Rick Wayman is a dynamic leader and experienced nonprofit professional featured in national and international media. At this workshop, Rick will offer practical tips for establishing the organization’s internal investment policies and discuss gift acceptance considerations such as oil company money. Read More

Be the Cause

As 2022 beings to wind down, we’d like to invite you to join our effort and help us meet our 2022 goal for Be The Cause campaign. When you make a gift to the Be The Cause camping, you allow the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy to fund local, national, and international programs, including scholarships, leadership development, timely research on the latest issues and trends, and much more. Furthermore, a portion of every donor's donation goes back to our chapter to support local programs.

This year we leveraged our 2021 Be the Cause grant to award 9 scholarships to individuals in our counties to cover the cost of their AFP membership. Our members and friends made that possible – THANK YOU!

Thank you to those who have already given this year. If you like to join this elite group of donors, we invite you to make your gift today. Become our partner in helping develop fundraising professionals who can lead the sector and their respective organizations to increase philanthropic commitments for some of society's most pressing needs.
