"We're all just walking each other home."
|
|
"I recently heard this beautiful phrase: ‘We’re all just walking each other home.' If I heard this seven years ago, I would have been touched. Today, after trying to work through the grief of losing Brooke, it takes on a different meaning. Everyone has faced loss of some kind. We are not going to avoid all heartache in life nor should we. We need to live through it. Tonight, I want to tell you that I am here to walk you home, as a friend and as a mom. As a Foundation, we are here to walk with the kids we are helping. Even more importantly, they are walking us home. Thank you for walking with us.” - from Stefani Healey's 2020 Casino Night Gala speech

Casino Night Gala 2020: $236,000 raised!
|
|
Just over two weeks ago, attendees, sponsors and volunteers brought hope to a vulnerable community that was vulnerable even before the pandemic we face today.
Those dealing with pediatric cancer were at risk because of a lack of funding towards a cure.
- Only 4% of federal cancer research funding goes towards pediatric cancer.
- In the last 20 years, only four cancer treatments have been specifically developed and approved for children.
- The treatments for DIPG remain the same as they did for Buzz Aldrin's child in 1962.
With your help all this is changing. Between sponsorships, the night's appeal and donations, we raised $236,000!
Experts in the field believe that finding a cure for the biggest bullies, like DIPG, will lead to a homerun cure for all cancers.
In the words of our extraordinary keynote speaker, 11-year-old
Grace Eline, a brain tumor survivor:
"Your incredible generosity is able to help kids like me and those who are still fighting.
Thank you for being here and listening to my story.
Thank you helping us make a difference and getting us closer to a cure!"

If you donated to our appeal, please don't forget to check with your company about matching gifts.

What Your Donations Towards Research Cover
|
|
"Your daughter has DIPG. There’s nothing we can do. Go home and make memories. There have been no medical advancements in pediatric brain tumors in 50 years. These are the words all too many parents hear within 24-hours of diagnosis. These are the words Stefani and I heard about Brooke in 2013. How can this be? I asked the doctor at the time. There’s no funding, he said. What do you mean there’s no funding? I asked. Not enough children are dying, he said. I was enraged. My one child is too many. How does this change? I asked. Until a celebrity’s child dies or parents like you raise the funds, nothing will change. After Brooke passed and some time went by, I reflected on that moment and realized that if I don’t get involved, the cycle will never stop." - from Steve Healey's 2020 Casino Night Gala speech
