Empowering Women And Children Impacted By The Criminal Justice System

As we take up the fight for Parole Justice, we do so with a very solemn understanding: if we don't win, people will die.

I remember my friend Val. Val and I served time together in Bedford Correctional Facility. She was known for taking other women under her wing and helping them to improve their lives.

Val died in prison after her throat cancer was misdiagnosed as acid reflux.

Her death was a preventable tragedy. There will be many more if we don't act.
On May 20th, New Hour LI and LISJAN will participate in two rallies.

We will gather at the office of New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins in Yonkers, as well as the office of Speaker of the Assembly Carl Heastie in the Bronx to hold a funeral for future lives lost.

An incarcerated person dies every three days in New York prisons. These rallies recognize those who will die if Speaker Heastie and Leader Cousins fail to pass Parole Justice before the legislative session ends.

You can RSVP here. Please wear black.

We look forward to seeing you there as we fight to bring our loved ones home.

In solidarity,

Serena & the New Hour Team
