In celebrating this milestone season, the park is donating 50 Funtown USA Ride Park tickets to the Autism Society of Maine. These one-day tickets can be used at any time throughout the park's 50th season.
"We wanted to work with a great organization that does so much for the entire state of Maine, and that is the Autism Society's mission," said Ed Hodgdon, park marketing manager . "Families from Kittery to Fort Kent benefit from the work being done by the Autism Society of Maine."
"The Autism Society of Maine is very honored that Funtown Splashtown USA recognizes the need of families who have a child with autism to have special time at the park," said Cathy Dionne, Director of Programs and Administration at the Autism Society of Maine.
In 2015, Funtown Splashtown USA held its first Autism Awareness Day at the end of August. This event was a huge success, so two additional days are being added to the calendar.
This year, there will be Autism Awareness Days on Monday, June 27; Monday, July 25; and Monday, August 22. On these days, there will be extra accommodations made in certain areas of the park.
"We are pleased that we can offer a different experience, while still maintaining the magic of being a guest at Funtown Splashtown USA," said Cory Hutchinson, park general manager. "We will be investing in additional training for all team members so that they are better prepared for working with our guests with autism, both on these special days and throughout the season.
Dionne of the Autism Society of Maine added, "Having a few days this summer which the park will host Autism Awareness Days allows for families to feel less stressed and enjoy the day as a family."
Funtown USA Ride Park is scheduled to open for its 50th season on Saturday, May 7 at 11:00am. Splashtown USA Water Park is scheduled to open for its 21st season on Saturday, June 11 at 10:00am.
