Join us for a discussion on the impacts of food insecurity within communities, what led us to our current state, some of the biggest challenges facing our neighbors, and the role food banks play in helping to reduce the impacts of food insecurity.
A little about Michelle~
Michelle Book began her role as president and CEO of the Food Bank of Iowa on February 1, 2016. Food Bank of Iowa procures free and reduced cost food to help 175,000 food insecure Iowans across 55 counties in Iowa’s central corridor and southeast corner. Earlier in her career, Michelle worked at MidAmerican Energy, John Deere, and DuPont Pioneer.

2019 River Bend Neighborhood Annual Home Tour
The River Bend Neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the City of Des Moines, Iowa. Within this area, you’ll find a diverse mix of families living in some of the oldest homes in the city. Many of the houses in River Bend date back to the 1870’s. Each year, the Neighborhood Association sponsors a tour of homes in the district. Join us for the 2019 Home Tour September 7th and September 8th from 10 AM – 4 PM.

Lung Cancer Research Foundation's Central Iowa Free to Breath Walk
The Lung Cancer Research Foundation’s Central Iowa Free to Breathe Walk will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2019. The event will feature a route of approximately 3 miles. Walkers may complete the entire route or choose an early turnaround point. As a special way to honor those impacted by lung cancer, participants will also have an opportunity to dedicate a hope flag to a loved one. Music, snacks, and festivities will be available for all ages to enjoy. Hundreds of lung cancer patients, survivors and advocates from the Central Iowa area will gather to raise awareness and funding for lung cancer research. Proceeds from the event support the Lung Cancer Research Foundation and its vision to create a world free of lung cancer.

There is no registration fee for the event; All participants who raise $100 or more will earn an official event t-shirt.
