WHAT IS A SPECIAL NEEDS TRUST?

If you have a disabled child, grandchild or close family member and are concerned about their care after you pass away, there is a special kind of trust that you might want to consider.

Supplemental or special needs trusts (or “SNTs”) are specifically designed for this purpose. You can create a fund to help someone who suffers from a chronic or severe disability to ensure that the money you leave for them is well spent and used according to your wishes.

PERSONAL INJURY AND INSURANCE COMPANY NEGOTIATIONS

Recently I represented a young woman who was rear-ended. Her injuries were not serious but she still sustained injuries due to the negligence of another party. The insurance carrier was very aggressive, even with me, offering $2,500, $3,500 and then $6,500 before I even had the client’s medical records. In only a few short months later, I was able to settle her case for $15,000. This is one of many cases with a similar scenario.
