A Community Forming

With the sound of George Strait filling the air, on Saturday, March 26th, we welcomed over 200 of our Founding Family members to our Boots 'n Blue Bell event. The excitement from our students and families was palpable and it became clear that BASIS San Antonio - Jack Lewis Jr. Campus is going to be a special community. The spirit of our Founding Families is quickly being spread, as shortly after that event, we experienced a surge in new family applications. To date, we are nearing full enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year, with a few spaces still available in 4th and 5th grade. Despite this, we encourage our Founding Families to continue to spread the word to those interested, as this allows us to continue to grow.
Alongside our Founding Families were 17 of our Founding Teachers and Staff. Each of these team members eagerly gave up their Saturday afternoon to spend time with their future students. They come with diverse and impressive backgrounds, personifying professionalism and a commitment to excellence! Current BASIS Teachers and Future BASIS teachers were excited to get the chance to meet members of our community, and again it is a testament to the type of commitment each of our team members shares. Truly, a special team is forming.
While we gathered at our Medical Center campus, we are thrilled with the progress of our own building and cannot wait to open our own doors in the summer for what will be an incredible place to learn, to grow, and for our team members to demonstrate their best!

- These times are subject to change as we are still waiting on the finalization of our Traffic Impact Analysis.

Early Bird
Early Bird is our morning student program. Students may be dropped off as early as 7AM, regardless of their scheduled start time. Students will be in an unstructured learning environment monitored by education professionals. They will have the opportunity to work on their studies, access their teacher's Student Hours, and also play outside. Teachers in primary grades will gather students from Early Bird 10 minutes prior to their scheduled start times, allowing them ample time to go to their cubbies, and get prepared for the day. Early Bird is FREE for all families.
Late Bird
Late Bird is our afternoon student program. Students will be in an unstructured learning environment where they will be supported by education professionals. They may work on and be supported in finishing their homework, along with being able to play outside. Late Bird is designed for families who are not able to pick-up their students during their scheduled dismissal times, or families that are running behind on a particular day, so their students are in a safe, academic, and nurturing environment. Students may be picked up as late as 6PM.
Late Bird is a fee-based program, which runs $200 per month for the first child, and a discounted rate for siblings. Daily "Drop-In" is also available for families who may not need Late-Bird on a regular basis.
Students in "Late Bird" as a result of waiting on siblings to be released due to staggered dismissal are considered to be a part of "Free Bird". These students are not charged for this service. Additionally, students participating in other activities (EXC activities, Student Hours, etc.) are not considered Late Bird.
Late Bird Registration Coming Soon!

Mascots are important figures in a school community and we want our students to be a part of the selection process. Each week we will share different clues about potential mascots. We encourage our students to investigate and post their conclusion right here on Facebook.
Each right answer will be put into a bracket challenge called Mascot Madness (think March Madness) where students will vote on what they want their new school mascot to be.
We will unveil the winner during the first week of school!

"Our building is the beneficiary of everything we did wrong before!" Says Mr. Hubalik
Letter from the editor
|
BASIS has developed a reputation over the last 25 years of providing a world-class education to students. We began with humble beginnings in a small strip mall in Tucson, Arizona in 1998 with 56 students. When we opened the second campus, the high school, the "upgrade" was that it was a stand-alone building. This building was a former bank! We laugh fondly when we think about our students learning Mandarin in an old bank vault. That school, BASIS Tucson, went on to become US News and World Report's #1 public school in the country! It is a testament that building is means less to the process than the hard working students and bright, passionate teachers! From that point forward, we began to grow as families everywhere want the best for their students. With that growth, we learned pretty quickly what works in a school, and even more quickly, what doesn't! With BASIS San Antonio - Jack Lewis Jr. Campus, we are truly the beneficiaries of what we didn't get right in previous buildings. Our campus is on schedule to be delivered in early July, complete with state-of-the-art turf, intelligently designed playgrounds meant to spark imagination, natural light in every room, wider hallways, and so much more. What we can say about our campus is that while our students can excel anywhere, we are proud that we have a building and environment that mirrors the excellence brought by the curriculum, the teachers, and the network!
