Meet Penina!

Penina is a current senior at Lowell High School who participated in our Early College Ambassadors program over the summer. This new initiative enables current Early College students to mentor and encourage their younger peers to enroll in program, with a focus on reaching underrepresented students.

Over the summer, Penina engaged in workshops focused on mental health and professional development, equipping her with essential skills for her future. She also made a meaningful impact in the Lowell community by participating in Free Fun for Kids, where she distributed free books to local children.

Penina was drawn to the Ambassador program because she believed it would be a great experience to gain valuable networking and communication skills, all while supporting and spreading awareness of the great Early College programs available at Lowell High.

Her favorite memory at LHS was the 2022 Winter Dance concert. With great memories, Penina is excited about the future and plans to pursue advanced degrees in psychology.

Meet Alyssa, Class of 2022 Alumni!

Earlier this fall, Alyssa joined the first class of the Pathmaker program, a collaboration between HMS MEDscienceLAB, Project LEARN, and UMass Lowell.

After graduating from Lowell High in 2022, Alyssa was initially considering becoming a tattoo artist (having designed her peers' tattoos and completed seven on herself!) before taking on the role of a pharmacy technician. After completing esthetician school, Alyssa decided to begin exploring careers in the life sciences and healthcare fields, with aspirations of returning to pursue nursing.

The Pathmaker program is a brand new workforce training initiative that provides an immersive lab- and career-skills training to local young adults 18+, allowing them to gain entry into life science fields with no prior experience. Alyssa was excited to join Pathmaker, hoping to gain professional experience and learn new skills that will support her when she returns to school for nursing.

Alyssa's favorite memory at LHS was the art classes she took with Mrs. Magnus, which she said was the "highlight" of her school day.

From mentors, advisors, guest speakers, tutors and more, Lowell High Alumni are valuable resources for current students. The Lowell High Alumni Association is a collaboration between Project LEARN and the Lowell Public School district. The mission of the Alumni Association is to help alumni connect with each other, to engage with the school, community and to inspire future generations of Lowell High students through mentoring, advising and tutoring. We invite alumni to connect and find ways to work on new and existing programs within the schools to better the academics and the lives of all Lowell Public School students.
