July 2023 Edition

Welcome to the Phamily!

Hello class of 2027, and welcome to the UM COP!

My name is Lydia Joyner (P3), and I am the current Pharmacy Student Government Council (PSGC) President. I want to say congratulations again to all of you on your acceptance to the PharmD program here at the University of Michigan! We are all so excited for you to start next month.

I look forward to meeting and working with all of you as you begin pharmacy school. This first year will bring so many new experiences, and I am excited for all of you to find unique ways to integrate yourselves into our community here at the COP. One main way to get involved is by being part of the student organizations and attending org events. For example, the Health-Systems Pharmacy (HSP) organization routinely hosts a pharmacist panel for students to attend and talk with pharmacists in an informal setting to learn more about their career paths and current jobs. Additionally, all of you have been recipients of the hard work Pharmacy Student Ambassadors (PSA) does through sending out congratulatory and introductory emails. During orientation week, there will be dedicated opportunities for you to learn about all the great organizations that exist here at the COP and figure out which one(s) you would like to join. Other ways students get involved with life here at the COP is through volunteering as well as working in the pharmacy department at Michigan Medicine. There are so many opportunities that exist here, and if you have any questions about anything please feel free to reach out to me. I want all of you to be successful and have a wonderful four years here.

This issue of The Pharmacy Connection will focus on important reminders of things that you need to be mindful of before starting this fall. Please review this information carefully, and contact the Student Services Office if there are any questions.

These are some important dates to keep note of:

  • August 1: Immunization Documentation is due to myRecordTracker (except influenza which is due November)
  • August 21-25: P1 Orientation (Attendance is required)
  • August 28: First day of classes (woo!)

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your summer, and I can't wait to meet you in August!

Best,

Lydia Joyner

As the fall term approaches, I wanted to share some important information with you regarding when Fall 2023 bills are due, when to expect your financial aid to disburse to your account (if you accepted aid), how to set up a direct deposit account, how to make sure that your students loans are ready to disburse (federal unsubsidized stafford loan, Graduate Plus Loan, and/or a Health Professions Loan), and how to set up a payment plan if needed.

I hope this information is helpful as you get ready to start this fall!

  1. Bills will be posted to Wolverine Access students’ accounts for tuition and fees beginning August 4, 2023. Fall 2023 bills are due August 31, 2023

  1. If you applied for financial aid, the first Fall 2023 financial aid disbursement will occur on Saturday, August 19, 2023 with funds available to students on or after Thursday, August 24, 2023.

  2. If you are expecting funds, we highly recommend that you set up a direct deposit account

Here is the website to learn more.

MCard Information

New students will receive instructions about about obtaining an MCard at orientation. College of Pharmacy students must receive an MCard from the health system and not the main campus MCard offices.

If you are moving to Ann Arbor in early August, or if you plan to live in University Graduate Housing and need your MCard sooner, you can pick up a signed form to obtain your MCard at the College of Pharmacy main office. Directions for where to go to get your MCard is included with this form.
