ACTION COMMITMENTS

Below are the highlights from the last Enrollment and Completion team meeting of the 23-24 school year that occurred on May 23rd. To see the agenda and full notes click here.

College Enrollment Team (Financial Aid)

College Readiness Team (4-Year Plans)

  • The team spoke about what FAFSA issues have been resolved, but challenges with CSAC and CADAA access remain, requiring follow-up by text and 1:1 meetings with students. At Archie Williams, only 75 seniors have submitted financial aid applications, and those opting out must fill out a form. It's advised to use the FAFSA chat feature for better assistance. Tam District has sent surveys to senior families and mentioned financial aid applications in exit surveys, with plans for 1:1 meetings to ensure submission or opt-out form completion. SR School faces low submission numbers due to FAFSA issues and couldn't run the April 30th report; they plan lunch workshops to address these problems. Using senior surveys to track application submissions and obtaining opt-out forms if necessary is key. BTG aims for a 90% completion rate, finding 1:1 meetings very effective, and suggests having a dedicated contact for FAFSA/CSAC questions. Workshops and demystifying the FAFSA process help students understand that college can be affordable, encouraging higher completion rates.
  • The 4-year Plans team learned about Proficiency Based Education and Learning. In recent meetings, the team explored two potential strategies for the upcoming school year: Default A-G Curriculum and Proficiency Based Education. Details on the Default A-G Curriculum can be found in the previous meeting’s notes here. After discussing the team's Boundary of Authority, Roles, and Task (B/ART) related to both strategies, they unanimously chose to focus on the Default A-G Curriculum. This approach ensures that every student is automatically enrolled in A-G courses, aiming to standardize educational opportunities and increase college eligibility, without making it a graduation requirement. The goal is to provide scaffolded support to help all students succeed in these courses without penalizing those who do not pass. The team will begin the 24-25 school year by assessing each school district's needs for implementing A-G courses, identifying key stakeholders, and outlining steps to ensure administrators, staff, students, and families are confident and supported during the transition.
