Summer at Nolan Catholic

Each summer, Nolan Catholic comes alive with camps that welcome Future Vikings to campus for learning, skill-building, and fun. From athletics and academics to fine arts and enrichment, our summer camps give younger students a chance to experience the spirit, community, and tradition that alumni know so well.

These camps are often a first step in a student’s Nolan Catholic journey—and a great way for alumni families to share the Viking experience with the next generation.

Around Our Campus

Nolan Catholic Earns GOLD Recognition on AP School Honor Roll

Nolan Catholic High School has once again been named a GOLD member of the AP School Honor Roll, a distinction awarded to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to college readiness and academic excellence.

Nolan Catholic’s results highlight the strength of our academic program:

  • 71% of seniors took at least one AP Exam during high school
  • 61% of seniors earned a score of 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam
  • 23% of seniors took five or more AP Exams

Notably, the final two benchmarks meet PLATINUM-level standards, the highest recognition awarded by the College Board.

For Future Viking families, this honor reflects our commitment to preparing students with the skills, confidence, and academic foundation needed to succeed in college and beyond.

Nolan Swim Team Makes Waves at State

The Nolan Catholic Swim Team closed out an outstanding season at the State Meet in San Antonio, with both the girls and boys teams finishing 6th overall among the top programs in the state—a remarkable achievement at the highest level of competition.

Across 17 individual swims and six relays, Vikings delivered strong performances and earned multiple podium finishes. On the girls’ side, two relay teams—featuring Olivia Leuschner (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton), Kirsten Hernandez (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton), Mabel Giesinger (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton), and Georgia Walser (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton)—captured third-place finishes, with Kirsten Hernandez also earning third place in the 200 IM.

The boys’ team turned in an exceptional showing led by Trifon Walser (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton), who claimed state championships in both the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. Trifon also recorded the highest power ranking of the meet and was honored with the Bruce Rollins Distinguished Swimmer Award, the highest individual recognition presented at the state meet.

From St. Joseph to Nolan Catholic:

A Legacy of Academic Excellence

Each year at Graduation, Nolan Catholic High School proudly recognizes two seniors for exceptional academic achievement. The titles of Valedictorian and Salutatorian honor the highest cumulative grade averages earned across seven semesters of high school—reflecting years of dedication, discipline, and perseverance.

We are excited to announce the academic leaders of the Class of 2026:

  • Salutatorian: Noah Pham
  • Valedictorian: Josephine Vu

This announcement was made during Mass and held special meaning as 5th-grade students from St. Joseph Catholic School were present to witness the moment. Noah and Josephine are both proud St. Joseph alumni, making it a full-circle celebration of their academic journey—and a powerful example for our visiting Future Vikings.

Engineering the Future:

Innovation & Robotics at Nolan Catholic

The Nolan Catholic Engineering and Robotics programs offer students many excellent opportunities to develop their problem-solving skills in a positive environment. The 150+ students currently enrolled in our certified Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering and Computer Science courses will be prepared to meet the problems of tomorrow with confidence. They will be prepared for college pathways such as engineering, technology, medicine, and other STEM fields.

Students may take either the Engineering track or the Computer Science track. All students are required to take the same Capstone course together, in which interdisciplinary teams are formed to focus on one particular problem throughout the year. Consultation with professional engineers is a part of this experience.

PLTW courses are part of the academic day, but the extracurricular robotics program adds another layer of depth to the STEM training of our students. These students are given more access to the tools in our state of the art facility. Robotics students gain experience with:

  • A fully equipped wood shop featuring precision tools such as a SawStop table saw, miter saws, drill presses, and joinery equipment
  • A dedicated metal shop with welding stations, grinders, and fabrication tools
  • Industry‑standard robotics and electronics labs for coding, prototyping, and automation
  • Collaborative design areas where students use CAD, 3D printing, and rapid‑iteration techniques

Our engineering and computer science tracks emphasize both technical mastery and the habits of mind that define great problem‑solvers. Students learn to:

  • Think critically and creatively
  • Work collaboratively in teams
  • Communicate their ideas with clarity
  • Approach challenges with resilience and curiosity

Graduates leave with a strong foundation in engineering principles, programming, robotics, and design thinking—skills that give them a competitive edge in college admissions and future STEM careers.

Lenten Prayer Opportunities on Campus

During the Lenten season, Nolan Catholic students are invited to deepen their faith through a variety of prayer opportunities offered throughout the week.

Each school day begins with Morning Prayer, as our community prays one Station of the Cross together.

Additional weekly Lenten opportunities include:

  • Prayer Intentions on Tuesdays led by our student LIFE Team, offering space for students to pray for one another and our community
  • Wisdom Wednesday with Fr. Metzler
  • Holy Hour Thursdays, with Eucharistic Adoration available before school
  • All-day Confession on Fridays

These prayer opportunities reflect our commitment to forming students spiritually, encouraging them to build habits of faith that extend beyond the classroom and into daily life. For our Future Viking families, this is just one example of how spiritual life is woven into each week on campus.

Stephen Breen Memorial Middle School Basketball Tournament on Nolan Catholic Campus

Nolan Catholic High School is proud to once again host the Stephen Breen Memorial Middle School Basketball Tournament, welcoming teams from across our community for a week of competition rooted in faith, sportsmanship, and service.

This annual tournament honors the life of Stephen Breen, a student of Saint Andrew Catholic School and Nolan Catholic High School. At just 13 years old, Stephen was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer. Throughout his journey, he was known for his courage, humor, and deep care for others.

Following his passing in 2004, the Stephen Breen Memorial Foundation was established to continue his legacy—supporting Catholic education and assisting families facing childhood cancer.

We are grateful to the teams, families, volunteers, and supporters who make this meaningful tradition possible and help keep Stephen’s spirit and mission alive.

  • Free admission with this year’s tournament shirt.
  • Tournament schedules and brackets are available here.
