Girl Scouts Give Back This Holiday Season

It's the season to give back, and we all know that Girl Scouts are always giving back to their communities in unique and purposeful ways. We love sharing what are troops are up to, especially during the holidays, so here are a few ways our girls are making the world a better place.

Girl Scouts in Buncombe and Madison counties prepared over 500 holiday gift bags for social workers at the VA in Asheville to distribute to homeless veterans in the area.  Service Unit 124 in Gastonia held a Giving Tree event where girls could come participate in festive activities while also giving back to local organizations. What a great idea!

Girl Scout Troop 2530 donated fleece blankets and chew toys to their local animal clinic and Girl Scout Troop 2276 helped with the Toys for Tots program just to name a few other projects going on throughout the council. We are also proud to announce that we had 2,355 girls participate in our annual Good Turn for Goodwill service project, with 3,599 bags of items donated to our local Goodwill facilities.

Be sure to follow our council Facebook page to see more troop spotlights and weekly highlights about how our Gold Award Girl Scouts are changing their communities.

New Credit Card Payment Option Available for Cookie Sales through Smart Cookies
Customers who place orders through Smart Cookies will have the option to pay via credit card for girl-delivery orders for the 2018-19 cookie season. How does it work?
  1. Girls create their Smart Cookies account and download the Smart Cookies mobile app.
  2. Girl sends e-card to customer letting them know about the cookie program. Customer places order for girl-delivery.  Girls can also enter the customer's order in Smart Cookies for girl-delivery.
  3. Cookies arrive to the troop/girl and girl delivers cookies to customer. Using the Smart Cookies app, a girl logs into Smart Cookies and retrieves the order. Under Delivery & Payments, she selects Delivered (under Status), Yes (under Paid), Credit Card (under Payment Option) and enters the credit card information. Please know that customers' credit card information is not saved to the mobile device.
Smart Cookies Direct Ship
Through Smart Cookies, customers will also have the option to place a direct ship order. With Smart Cookies Direct, customers order online, pay online and cookies will be shipped directly to the customer (customer pays shipping charges). If the customer purchases at least five packages through Smart Cookies Direct, the customer can receive special, council- subsidized shipping rates.

Girl Scout Destinations
Go on the trip of a lifetime!

Have you checked out the Girl Scout Destinations program? It is the ultimate adventure program for girls ages 11 and older. With a ton of different trips to apply for every year- from surfing camp on the east coast and breathtaking hikes out west to the crazy-cool wonder of new cultures abroad- there is a trip for every girl!

Make friends from all over the country as you travel with Girl Scouts from different states. Last year, GSCP2P had girls reach for the stars at Space Camp, camp in Yellowstone National Park and discover the amazing country of Iceland.

The second round deadline for Girl Scout Destinations is February 1. You can learn more about the process on our website or you can visit the Girl Scout Destinations website to explore the different travel opportunities and find the perfect place for you!

Thank You for Supporting Girl Scouts!
Our 2018 #GivingTuesday campaign was the best year yet!

We want to send a sincere thank you to all the donors who gave to our girls and the council as part of our #GivingTuesday campaign. To date, we have raised over $3,600- our most successful #GivingTuesday yet!

Without the support of our donors, board and staff, we would not be able to continue bringing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to the girls in our communities. Your gift, no matter how much you gave, will make a difference this year!

Here are some inspiring shout outs from the donors themselves:

"Thanks to Girl Scouts for building our future leaders." - Anonymous

"Girl Scouts has definitely made an impact on my life and I am forever grateful. So blessed to be able to be a Girl Scout leader and teach my daughters how to love God, help others and serve their community." - Laura

"I am proud that both of my daughters are lifetime Girl Scouts." - Kathy

"The Girl Scout organization helped me be who I am today. Thank you Girl Scouts!"- Karen

"Love your mission. Happy to help support it!"- Samantha

"Love being a volunteer with this organization!" - Gwen
