Project Overview & Benefits
The City of Miami Beach is making improvements to the Barbara Medina Ice Rink at the Scott Rakow Youth Center, located at 2700 Sheridan Avenue. This project is partly funded by the 2018 General Obligation Bond. Once completed, these renovations will enhance the safety and usability of the ice rink.
What's Happening?
Work is divided into three phases as detailed below:

Ice Rink Refrigeration: Replacement of the refrigeration plant, compressor and pipework system in the ice rink.

Perimeter Boards: Replacement of the ice rink perimeter boards and foundations.

Updated Flooring: Replacement of the floors in the ice rink arena.
For your safety, please note that the ice rink will be closed for the entire duration of the project.
Timeline
This project will commence October 2026 and take approximately 7–8 months to complete. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Please note that this schedule may change due to weather and/or other unforeseen circumstances.
What to Expect
- Construction equipment, machinery and workers will be present.
- Access to the ice rink will not be permitted for the entire duration of construction.
- All other areas of the Scott Rakow Youth Center will continue to operate and remain accessible to the public throughout the construction period.
