Champion and Emerging Leader Award Recipients
The Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Champion award acknowledges the efforts of individuals, organizations, and state agencies in Georgia. These awardees have successfully devised state-specific work plans, implementing effective strategies for infant and early childhood mental health, particularly in the realms of promotion, prevention supports, and the establishment of networks to enhance connections across systems. Their achievements include fostering collaboration, securing funding for initiatives, and advocating for a shared understanding of the objectives in infant and early childhood mental health, contributing to the development of a comprehensive system of care in Georgia. We are honored to have presented this award to CHRIS 180 New Generation Program, Wendy White-Tiegreen with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), and the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).
The Emerging Leader award in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health acknowledges individuals on the rise, making substantial contributions to Georgia's infant and early childhood mental health field. These awardees exhibit notable growth in leadership and service, showcasing forward-thinking perspectives, innovative ideas, and a commitment to ongoing learning. We are delighted to have presented this award to Victrecia Hines from the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services and Heather Hastie, a private child and family therapist.

Five-Finger Breathing
A Mindfulness Practice for Families
Five-finger breathing is a quick and easy mindfulness practice. In this exercise, use the sensations of breathing and touch to settle your mind and body. Model the activity first and then have your child mimic you.

  • Choose and extend one hand, palm out, with your fingers spread.
  • With your other hand, use your pointer finger to trace each finger up and down as you breathe in and out. Do this carefully, so your movement matches your inhale and exhale.
  • As you breathe and trace each finger, notice the sensations of movement in your body – your chest and belly moving in and out and your finger moving up and down.
  • When you come to the base of your wrist below your little finger, rest for a moment. Check in with yourself. Notice how you are feeling without overthinking or judging.
