Popular Baby Barn exhibit back at the Georgia National Fair

For the third year, the Baby barn is back at the Georgia National Fair.
Crowds gathered to witness the moment a cow gave birth to a baby calf, named Kirby. Crowds cheered moments before and after the arrival. For some fair-goers, witnessing the moment was a big surprise.
“I didn’t expect to actually see a live birth, but I expected that there was going to be babies, but it was amazing, good experience,” said Michel Stamps. Stamps traveled from Newnan to experience her first time at the Georgia National Fair.
For others like Carolyn Schnee, she’s been visiting the fair for 17 years. She says the birth of the cow was no surprise to her. This year was a little more special though. She brought her son for the first time. Click here to watch>>>

Sunbelt Expo prepares for 43rd farm show Oct. 19-21

After having to cancel the 2020 show the Sunbelt Agricultural Exposition will celebrate its 43rd anniversary show Oct. 19-21, 2021. More than 1,200 exhibitors will display and demonstrate products and welcome thousands of visitors to the 100-acre site.
Crowned as North America’s Premier Farm Show and the largest farm show in America with field demonstrations, the Sunbelt Ag Expo brings together all segments of agribusiness including farmers, educators, policy-makers, ag-enthusiasts and families. All attending the show will see the latest innovation and technology that the agriculture industry has to offer.
Education is the key component of the show with more than 300 seminars and demonstrations offered over the three-day event. These seminars and demonstrations are taught in exhibit areas for beef, dairy, poultry, forestry, pond management, equine and cattle management. Farmers and ranchers attending gain beneficial knowledge on the latest in cutting edge techniques from industry leaders and university specialists. The Expo works with 21 different education sponsors to host a strong seminar and demo schedule. NEW FSA STATE DIRECTOR NAMED

The Georgia Agribusiness Council congratulates Mr. Arthur Tripp on his appointment as FSA State Executive Director for Georgia. Tripp has a long history of working on agribusiness issues throughout a distinguished career in public service. Tripp is currently the District Director for U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Bordeaux of Georgia's 7th Congressional District, overseeing and directing the Congresswoman’s in-state operations. Previously, Arthur served as the Senior Policy Advisor to U.S. Congressman David Scott, current Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture. Tripp managed the Congressman’s Agriculture Committee Assignment, overseeing the legislative process on Agriculture-related issues. Additionally, he served as a Senior Administrator in the Office of the President at the University of Georgia. Tripp is a graduate of the University of Georgia (UGA) and has been previously recognized as a member of the UGA 40Under40 and has served on the Alumni Board of Directors for the UGA School of Public and International Affairs. Tripp and his wife Jessica have a 3-year-old son, Arthur III.
Congressman David Scott (GA-13), chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, released the following statement on the appointment of Arthur Tripp to serve as State Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency (Georgia): "I look forward to working together alongside Mr. Tripp in his new role as FSA State Executive Director and with the White House to prioritize the success of our agricultural communities and to ensure that Georgia agriculture will continue to thrive for generations to come.”

USDA Proposes to Reapportion Membership for the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board
The USDA is seeking comments about a proposed rule to amend the makeup of the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board. The proposal would modify the number of Dairy Board members in two of the board’s 12 geographic regions. If adopted, the proposal will increase Region 8 (Idaho) representation from two members to three members and will decrease Region 10 (Alabama, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia) representation from two members to one member. The total number of domestic Dairy Board members will remain the same at 36 and the number of regions will remain the same at 12.
The proposed rule for this action was published in the Federal Register on September 21, 2021. Written comments must be received by October 21, 2021. Comments may be submitted through the Federal e-rulemaking portal at www.regulations.gov or emailed to Whitney.Rick@usda.gov. Comments should include the document number AMS-DA-20-0060 as well as the date and Federal Register page number of the proposed rule. All comments submitted in response to this proposed rule will be included in the record and will be made available to the public.

Handler, co-op agreements underway
Initially, the USDA AMS is establishing individual agreements with each eligible milk handler and cooperative this fall. There are two payment calculation steps contained in each agreement that ultimately determine what eligible dairy producers will receive.
First, the USDA calculates a lump sum payment due to each handler or cooperative for milk that was regulated under a Federal Milk Marketing Order (FMMO) during July-December 2020.
The amount of money due to the handler or cooperative is determined by the milk volume at a monthly rate that is 80% of the difference between the old (higher of) and the current (average of plus 74 cents) Class I milk pricing formulas.
Handler and cooperative payments vary and are affected by multiple factors for each handler and cooperative. For starters, because prices change every month and there are 11 FMMOs, there could be 66 different payment calculation rates to determine how much money is due to the handler or cooperative.
‘Opting in,’ AGI certification
As part of that agreement process, participating handlers and cooperatives will determine whether each individual milk supplier and/or member will “opt in” or “opt out” of the program. Handlers and cooperatives must also collect AGI certification from producers who choose to participate. Read more here>>>

Biden administration orders halt to ICE raids at worksites

The Biden administration Tuesday ordered a halt to large-scale immigration arrests at job sites, and said it is planning a new enforcement strategy to more effectively target employers who pay substandard wages and engage in exploitative labor practices.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s memo ordered a review of enforcement policies and gave immigration officials 60 days to devise proposals to better protect workers who report on their bosses from facing deportation.
Mass arrest operations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly referred to as ICE raids, have been used primarily against industries that employ large numbers of immigrants, such as meatpacking. Immigrant advocates and many Democrats who oppose the raids say they punish vulnerable workers, sow fear in immigrant communities and rarely result in consequences for employers. Read more here>>>
