Parish Newsletter February 2021
Message from Father King

The season of lent begins February 17th, Ash Wednesday. Due to the continuing COVID-19 concerns, you will notice some differences in our celebrations of the Sacred Liturgy and anything parish life in general. Our parish worship commission is busy studying our Lenten devotions and Holy Week liturgies.

We continue to follow the guidelines that are given to us by both the government and the church. But, as you know, sometimes these things can change from day to day. So, we thank you for your patience and understanding. We continue to wear masks and social distance. We remind you that in the summer we installed a Global Plasma Solution system in all our campus buildings. That system includes Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization technology that attacks and kills viruses, mold spores and bacteria leaving us with clean and healthy indoor air.

As we soon begin the Lenten Season, let us strive to grow in our relationship with our Saving Lord through praying, penance and almsgiving. May the Lenten Season be for us all a time of grave and blessing

We truly miss you. Stay Well.

Fr. Tom
Ash Wednesday is February 17th

Our Mass schedule for Ash Wednesday is as follows:
  • 7:30am
  • 9:00am*
  • 7:00pm
*This Mass will be live-streamed.

We will be following the guidance given to us by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in regard to the distribution of ashes.

While observing the existing guidance already in place relative to worship in a time of public health concern, the blessing and distribution of ashes to the faithful on Ash Wednesday takes place in the following way (per instruction from the Holy See on Jan 12, 2021)… The Priest [or other minister] takes the ashes and sprinkles them on the head of each one without saying anything.

Click here to read the complete guidelines.
Easter Masses

As we continue through the current pandemic, we turn our eyes to the celebration of Easter. As we did for Christmas, we are asking each of our families to RSVP to a specific Mass so we can make sure we are following current health guidelines. These site to RSVP will go live on Ash Wednesday, February 17th and will remain open through Sunday, March 21st. You will find the sign-up on our website, once it is live. Masses will fill up quickly, so please help us spread the word.

We are currently planning the following Easter Masses in our church:
  • Easter Vigil: 8:00pm
  • Easter Day: 8:00am, 10:00am, and 12:00pm
Enrollment Is Open Now for K-8 Students

Enrollment is now open for new students to Guardian Angels School for the 21-22 school year. Families looking to enroll students in kindergarten through eighth grade can find more information on our website. For a direct link to the online enrollment form, click here. Only new students for the 21-22 school year need to enroll through this link. Current families will re-enroll their students via a link sent directly from the school.

Our preschool and pre-k classes are at capacity for 21-22 but we do have a waiting list for those programs. Spots on the waitlist are determined on a first come first serve basis since the early enrollment period for parishioners and current school families has now closed.
Come Learn More About Our School

Due to the current health crisis, we are unable to host our typical Open House event. We do encourage families to come take a private tour of our school. We’ve also created a virtual Open House where you’ll find more information about Guardian Angels School and our wonderful community.

To visit our virtual Open Houseclick here. This information is compiled with answers to some of the most asked questions by prospective families. You can also see photos from inside our classrooms.

If you are interested in taking a personal tour of our school, click here. Tours are a great way to see classes in session, meet our administrators, and ask specific questions you have for your child(ren). If you are not interested in a tour at this time, but have specific questions you would like answers, you are also more than welcome to call our school office at 513-624-3141 or email our principal, Corey Stoops, or our assistant principal, Stephanie Woodall.

You can also find more information about our school on our website
Scout Sunday

February 7th is Scout Sunday. The day is to honor all of our Scouts who are members of Guardian Angel Parish. In the past three years, we have had 9 Boy Scouts earn their Eagle Scout Award and 21 Girl Scouts earn their Bronze Star. Currently we have both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts continuing to work toward earning more awards and badges along with rank advancement. We would like to thank our parish family, leaders and parents who support scouting at Guardian Angels.

We welcome all to join scouts at GA and we are recruiting new leaders who are passionate about scouting and want to develop our scouts to become their best self. For more information contact Amy Armstrong Smith.

40 Days for Life

Calling ALL members of Guardian Angels Parish: February 17th, Ash Wednesday, is the day Guardian Angels has committed to have our parish stand in prayer for 40 Days for Life from 7:00am to 7:00pm at the abortion clinic in Mt. Auburn. Please consider joining our parish on this day as we quietly stand in prayer for life! It does require standing for an hour outdoors. If this is something you have never done, maybe February 17th will be a first for you! It’s a great way to start your Lenten season! We cannot have too many people. To sign up, see the bulletin boards in the gathering space or email Luann Rowekamp with the hour you prefer.
Join Us For A Drive-Thru Fish Fry

With the current health guidelines in place, we are unable to host our Friday Fish Fry events in the same manner we have in the past. However, we will still provide this opportunity to our community this Lenten Season. Please join us for a Drive-Thru Fish Fry on February 19th and 26th. Just pull into our parking lot, place your order with a volunteer in the lot, and someone will then bring your food directly to your car. The drive-thru event will run from 5:00-7:00pm. Checkout our website for our menu and more details. Attendance at the first two events will help us determine if we run the drive-thru fish fry for the remaining Fridays during Lent.
Rite of Election

Please pray for our RCIA candidates as they prepare for full initiation into our Catholic faith. They will celebrate the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion at the 10:00am Mass on Sunday, February 21. During this rite, the Church makes its “election” or acceptance of the candidates as they pledge their fidelity and publicly state their resolve to receive the sacraments of the Church.
Small Faith Communities

We are interested in how our parish can continue to serve you best in the coming months. Much like Jesus and the first disciples, we work best when we grow in community with one another. If you are wanting more from your parish and Catholic Faith, we invite you to take the time to fill out the following survey. The information that you provide will help us understand how we can build small faith communities among parishioners, based on formation opportunities, shared interests, etc. Please submit survey responses by Sunday, March 7th. Bradley Barnes will reach out to you as submissions are received to discuss how this information can be put into action.

If your household has any students in grades 6-12, please consider submitting a separate interest form for that age group. Small groups for students will begin to be developed in during Lent.
Save the Date: Camp GAudeo, June 21-25

Last summer, we were blessed to be able to have our annual “Camp GAudeo” despite the pandemic. Using guidance from the state and archdiocese, we enjoyed a fun and safe environment for all. All families with students currently in grades 5-8 are encouraged to consider this summer’s camp, held June 21-25 at the parish. Registration is currently open, and spots will fill quickly. Register here. This year, we will engage in a variety of incredible activities, games, skills-building, large events (like Giant Slip-N-Slide), and even a trip to Coney Island. For questions regarding more information – specifically COVID procedures – you can refer to our brochure or contact Bradley Barnes.

Students in grades 9-12 are also invited to visit the registration page and fill out a high school counselor application. Counselors can earn up to 55 service hour credits and have a great time doing so!

School Masses
Due to Covid-19 and the additional measures we are taking to protect our students and staff, all school Masses are held privately and for students and staff only this school year. Students are socially distanced in church and required to wear a mask throughout the Mass.
