Parish Newsletter July 2025

Message From Father Angi

With summer comes change not only in the environment but also in schools. Immaculate Heart of Mary School welcomed Kelly Pendergest as principal effective July 1. Kelly comes to us after being assistant principal at St. Lawrence School in Lawrenceburg, Indiana in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. She has over fifteen years of education experience, having taught kindergarten through high school science.

Change is an inevitable constant in education. If it isn’t, it surely should be. While it can be met with resistance, effective leaders understand that it is often necessary for growth, innovation, and, most importantly, to meet the needs of students. To successfully justify change, leaders must articulate a compelling vision, address concerns, and provide support.

Change is often a gradual process, and it may take time for people to fully embrace the new and better way of doing things. It is vital to be patient and persistent in the efforts to drive change. By maintaining a positive and supportive attitude, leaders can inspire others to overcome challenges and achieve the desired outcomes. Change is not just about implementing new processes or technologies; it's about transforming how people work and think.

Leaders can ensure a successful transition to a brighter future by inspiring and empowering their most precious resource – the people who actually implement change. We look forward to our new principal and school administration moving into the 2025-2026 school year.

Cookie Ministry

Thank you for your donations to the Cookie Ministry this year. The Peanut Butter group really appreciates your support. They minister to the needy at St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen all year, so your donations over the summer are much needed. They put together a lunch sack on Tuesday mornings, so your donations should be dropped off on Mondays in the rectory. Your donation of cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats, etc adds a sweet treat to the lunches our peanut butter group makes for the needy of the St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen. Treats can be homemade or store-bought, but should be individually packaged (2 cookies per bag). They are also in need of juice boxes or pouches and prepackaged snacks like chips, pretzels, cheez-its, etc.

If you would like to help put together the lunches or drive them down to St. Francis Seraph, contact Kathy Hosking at 513-232-0958. Thank you for your help!

LifePREP for 8th Graders

All St. Gregory the Great 8th Graders will have the opportunity to participate in an exciting new program next year that facilitates the fine tuning of key life skills: self-awareness, communicating, relationship-building, decision-making, generating and managing income, time management, and other key skills, all with a Christian mindset. We will meet monthly from September through April as a group on the first Wednesday of the month from 7:00pm-8:30pm in the Youth Room on IHM’s campus; and then once more for 20-30 mins each month during the 3rd week (times and locations TBD) in a 1:1 meeting with a teen life coach. Please see the LifePREP webpage or contact Steve Von Hoene, Associate Director of Youth Evangelization stevevh@sggparish.org , for more information.

Grief Support Group

Join others on your journey from grief to healing in a nurturing, relaxed atmosphere. This support group is for any adult who has lost a loved one through death. Greeters and Gift Bearers for GA Liturgies

How can your family contribute to the success of our liturgies? We are need of individuals, couples and families to serve as greeters (stand at the Gathering Space doors and welcome Mass attendees to our parish) and gift bearers (bring up the bread, wine and collection basket at the Offertory Procession during Mass). We need volunteers for all 3 of our weekend Masses. Signing up in advance allows the ushers to know who is volunteering and not have to scramble to find a family to bring up the gifts.

Sign up here or see an usher when you get to Mass. Thank you for volunteering to serve in these important ministries!

Family Faith Formation for 2025 - 2026

St. Gregory the Great Family of Parishes offers faith formation opportunities for the children of our parishes. Our desire is to support you in your role as primary catechist, the one responsible for the faith formation of your family. After careful consideration of the family survey results and the updated Archdiocesan requirements, we are excited to share the details for the 2025-26 Saint Gregory the Great Faith Formation options.

Each option is offered as an opportunity for families to grow in faith together. We strive to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to life by exploring our faith through study of our Catholic core beliefs, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Scripture, Sacraments, Saints, Prayer, and through practical application activities based on these teachings. To register, click here.

Vacation Bible School

We had a great time at bible camp "trusting Jesus in a wild world"! Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped make our bible camp such a success.
