Parish Newsletter November 2023

Message From Father Angi

Guardian Angels has been named a 2023 Champion of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development because of steadfast support for this campaign. To commemorate this designation, an award will be presented at the 3:30 Mass on Saturday, November 11th. Father Tom King, the presider for the Mass, will receive the award presented to Guardian Angels. The funds received through the annual Catholic Campaign for Human Development are used to carry out the mission of Jesus Christ to bring glad tidings to the poor, liberty to captives, sight to the blind and letting the oppressed go free. The impact of this support radiates through our communities. Congratulations, Guardian Angels.

Tuesday is Election Day. Remember to vote as each vote counts. This is an especially important election due to Issue 1 which affects parental rights among others. The Bishops of Ohio and the Catholic Conference of Ohio has disseminated much information on this issue encouraging Catholics to vote no on the issue. Whenever there is a moral issue, the Church speaks out.

Our gospel for this Sunday speaks of being a servant. As a servant leader, we see that Jesus leads by example. He doesn’t just tell the people they need to be baptized. He shows them how and does it Himself to teach them. To lead like Jesus we, too, must “walk the walk” and not just “talk the talk.” If we want those we lead at home, in ministry or at work to be generous and hard-working, then we must show them how to do this by demonstrating generosity and hard work ourselves. After all, it is said that sometimes we may be the only Bible anyone reads.

Sincerely,

Fr. Steve

Join Us In Funding Future Angels This Giving Tuesday

Guardian Angels is Family. We, as parishioners of Guardian Angels Parish, grow together through the community that is unique only to GA. This community is deeply committed to growing our legacy through the next generation of Catholics devoted to living their faith. One way we do this is through our parish’s largest ministry, Guardian Angels School.

Our school has provided our Angels a magnificent place to grow for more than 120 years. Students leave our school with a strong Catholic core and are ready to compete with the top learners in a competitive academic world. Every year, we strive to provide a top-notch education for all of our families.

Guardian Angels is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our students to flourish. We are determined to continue Funding Future Angels. Our plan to accomplish this in the coming years includes enhancing our STEM makerspace and making improvements to our school campus and facilities.

We are asking for your help to make these projects happen. This will be our school’s single largest fundraiser for the year.

Consider supporting Guardian Angels School on Giving Tuesday!

Giving Tuesday is the week after Thanksgiving; it’s a movement to encourage people to give back to their own community. This year, we hope you give back to our Guardian Angels community as we participate in this Giving Tuesday Campaign on November 28th.

Be on the lookout for an email on November 28th with a specific link to donate to this one-day fundraising campaign. Donations made on November 28th, through our online platform, will not be assessed by the Archdiocese, meaning your entire donation stays with Guardian Angels. Offline donations (cash or checks) or donations made on a different day are not included in this assessment waiver.

Guardian Angels Will Honor Our Veterans On November 10th

Save the Date! Guardian Angels School will be honoring our veterans with a prayer service celebration on Friday, November 10th at 1:30 p.m. in the church. Seating will be available only for veterans and our students. This event will be livestreamed to our YouTube channel for parents to watch.

Great news for anyone who pays Ohio income tax and supports Guardian Angels

We have many students at Guardian Angels who benefit from scholarships provided by the Catholic Education Foundation (CEF). Ohio taxpayers who donate to the CEF may be able to claim a dollar-for-dollar, non-refundable tax credit on their state income tax return, up to $750 per donor. For more information, click here.

We hope you consider a donation before the end of the year and choose "Guardian Angels School (Cincinnati)(C00160)" from the drop-down when prompted.

Parishioner and tax expert, Brien Dulle, is donating. Here's what he had to say. "Supporting the CEF is a no-brainer for me for two reasons. As a graduate of GA that is also sending my daughters to the school, I want to invest in the education that our children receive. Secondly, there's no extra money out of pocket since I can claim a dollar-for-dollar Ohio tax credit."

First Reconciliation

God Bless the 2nd graders of our parish receiving their First Reconciliation this month. May they feel God’s mercy and compassion as they receive this sacrament for the first time.

The 2nd graders of our parish will be treated to a retreat on November 12th as they continue their preparations for Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. Please pray for our students as they welcome Jesus ever closer to their hearts.

Vocations Week

Vocation Awareness Week is November 6th-10th. Guardian Angels students participate in an Adopt-a-Seminarian program which invites men in formation to the priesthood from Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary to join our students in prayer.

Please pray for all of the seminarians, especially Deacon Brice Berger and the young men who are involved in our program. We are so grateful for the special relationship with have with our seminarians!

Contact Kay Froehlich (513-624-3146/ [email protected]) for more information on any Religious Education program.

Public Rosary Rally

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Rosary Rally last month!

Beautifying Our Church Update

We are nearing the end of Phase 1 renovations which include some major and needed upgrades to our parish Church.

Phase 1 involved cleaning and lighting our statues, new lighting and ceiling in the transepts, and the hanging and lighting of our “new” Stations of the Cross, which are part of the legacy from our original church building. During this phase, we also discovered leaks in the roofs of the transepts, incurring an unexpected cost for roof replacement, which was completed in September. Also, as our new lighting shows, there are many cracks and stains on walls, flooring and pews, which will be addressed in Phase 2.

Phase 2 will include new flooring throughout the Church – i.e., carpet, tile, luxury vinyl. All walls will be painted, as well as the addition of painting gold leaf accents around the tabernacle and some of the statues. We are also exploring other upgrades, a mural behind the Pieta, and artistic improvements. Due to the age and condition of our veneer pews, we will be replacing them with all-wood pews and kneelers. We will be adding chairs with kneelers on the sides of the tabernacle for special worship and expositions. Most of Phase 2 will occur next summer; however, some of the gold leaf and mural work may be completed sooner. These changes to our worship space require Archdiocesan approval, which we hope to receive over the next few months.

We thank you for your patience to date with the Phase 1 disruption. Supply chain delays, scheduling issues and equipment problems have prolonged the completion of our initial work. We hope you are excited about these first steps in the much-needed renewal and beautification work of our worship space. When our Church opened in 1971, the parish didn’t have the funds to complete the original design. This is our opportunity to do so and leave a legacy for those who worship in Guardian Angels Church in the future. Importantly, we will soon be able to share renderings of our proposed plans for the beautification project.

Past generations of parishioners have supported our parish community by building the current Church, school, gym, and Gathering Space, as well as the ongoing upkeep of each of these. This necessary repair, renovation and beautification of our sacred space will prepare it for our current parishioners and future generations. More information will be coming in the next weeks about how we can all financially support this important work.

We thank you for your past suggestions and comments, many of which have been or will be incorporated into the new design. We welcome your feedback at our email address -- [email protected] -- as we continue this renewal of our Church.

School Playground Hours

We want to remind everyone of the hours of operation for our newer playground equipment. The portion of the playground that was installed last year sits outside the area where our old equipment sat. Since it is outside the mulch area and is now closer to other property lines, the portion of the equipment with the slide CANNOT be used outside of the posted playground operating hours. Those hours are 8:00am-6:00pm.
