Message From Father Angi
This weekend in our Family of Parishes we celebrate the Feast of St. Gregory the Great. St. Gregory lived in Rome during a period of wars, invasions by hostile tribes, famine, and destruction. He was the son of Gordianus, a wealthy Roman senator. Like most of the upper class of his time, he was well educated. But unlike many, he was generous and concerned about the poor.
When he was in his early 30s, Gregory was made the chief prefect, or governor, of Rome. He had long been attracted to the religious life, however, and so left his position before very long. He converted the family estate in Rome into the Abbey of St. Andrew, became a monk there, and founded six Benedictine monasteries on his estates in Sicily. His life of quiet and prayer did not last long; for around 578 he was ordained one of the seven deacons of Rome and sent as the papal ambassador to Constantinople, where he served until 585. When he arrived back in Rome, he was made the abbot of St. Andrew’s.
Five years later the pope died, and Gregory was acclaimed pope by the clergy and the people of Rome. Unwillingly Gregory accepted the role. He was the first pope to call himself the “servant of the servants of God.” Gregory was such a good leader that he became known as Gregory the Great.
Because of his political skill, learning, talents, and deep devotion to God, Gregory was able to make peace with the invading Lombards, save the city from famine by reorganizing the property and granaries of the Church, and restore order within the Church itself. Even though there were tremendous problems in Rome, Gregory was able to look beyond his land to the needs of people in foreign lands. He sent a group of monks to England to teach the faith to the people who lived there. So great was Gregory’s interest in them that he has come to be called the Apostle of England, even though he himself was unable to travel there to preach. His achievements were many and had a widespread effect, but Gregory became a saint because of his love for God, which was reflected in all that he did.
St. Gregory the Great, pray for us!
Sincerely,
Fr. Steve

Church Reopening
We wholeheartedly thank the more than 250 generous donors who made the much-needed renovations of Guardian Angels Church possible. We are incredibly appreciative of your ongoing support. Because of your gift, we can continue honoring our past & investing in our future, making GA a beautiful space for future generations.
Thank you to the Beautification Committee (Rick Oberschmidt, Chairman; Father Brice Berger, Julie Bruns, Mirna Feghali, Mark Gillming, Don King, Kathy King, Jim Sullivan, and Dick Vogelgesang) for the countless hours they dedicated to this project, ensuring all aspects of the renovations moved smoothly and keeping our parishioners updated on the progress along the way. Without their leadership, none of this would be possible.

Children's Choir Registration
After much feedback and prayerful consideration, we have decided to move forward with a choir for grades 4-8.
Rehearsals:
- Mondays from 4:30-6 pm, beginning September 9th in the GA Music Room
Choir will rehearse from 4:30-5:30 pm. From 5:30-6:00 pm, the choristers will make their way to the church for some time of prayer and liturgical catechesis. Children will learn the components of various prayer services each week and build them into a fully sung prayer service. These will include, but are not limited to, Stations of the Cross, Adoration, and Evening Prayer. Parents are highly encouraged to come and learn these prayers and about the liturgy as well.
Regular attendance and dedication are a must to get the most out of this ministry, as each week's lesson will build upon the next. New members are welcome to join in the fall or in the spring. Below is a schedule of events for the 2024-2025 choir season. Please complete the registration form and email Matt Spencer, Associate Director of Worship (matts@sggparish.org) with any questions.

Cookie Ministry
Thank you for your donations to the Cookie Ministry this year. The Peanut Butter group really appreciates your support. They minister to the needy at St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen all year, so your donations are much appreciated. They put together a lunch sack on Tuesday mornings, so please drop off your donations to the rectory on Mondays. Your donation of cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats, etc., adds a sweet treat to the lunches our peanut butter group makes for the needy of the St. Francis Seraph Soup Kitchen. Treats can be homemade or store-bought but should be individually packaged (2 cookies per bag). They also need juice boxes or pouches and prepackaged snacks like chips, pretzels, cheez-its, etc.
If you would like to help pack the lunches or drive them down to St. Francis Seraph, contact Kathy Hosking at 513-232-0958. Thank you for your help!

They meet with each other as a group during school or CCD 2-4 times a year to socialize and pray together. We had a wonderful and rewarding 2023-24 school year. Thank you to all those that participated this year.
