Gang Alternative, Inc. had quite a big summer this year! We successfully facilitated four camps across 13 sites in Miami and Broward county. 608 kids (K-12 grade) attended and received life skills, violence prevention, health, and positive relationship training.
We're proud of our students for trying new things and using the opportunity to express their emotions and creativity through art activities such as dance, painting, and writing. Our students participated in morning icebreakers, sports, and weekly field trips including trips to Top Golf, The Frost Science Museum, Zoo Miami, Lion Safari, and Water Rapids.
We also had 477 clients participate in GA’s Annual Back-2-School Drive on July 30th where 850 backpacks and numerous school supplies were given away to help our communities prepare for the fall school semester.

Our Robotics and Life Skills Camp turned out to be an amazing success for it being its first year in motion and was a life-changing experience for middle schoolers all across South Florida. The Redlands Robotics & Life Skills Camp was generously funded under the Safe Summer initiative by the Commissioner for District 8.
We look forward to seeing these bright future STEM leaders next year!

Summer Interns and VISTAs
|
This summer, The Children's Trust sponsored 15 internships for 7 of GA's campsites. The internship ran from July 1st to August 5th.
Our North Miami Church of the Nazarene and Eglise Baptiste Haitiene Beree sites also had AmeriCorps summer VISTA members on-site, who supported staff administratively and assisted students during art, college readiness, life-skills, sports, and academic enhancement activities.
With these programs and internships, GA was able to provide local youth and young professionals the opportunity to attain resume-building skills that would last a lifetime.
