Healthy Relationships Adolescence

Conference 2023

GA held a Healthy Relationships Adolescence Conference, its first tri-county youth conference on Saturday, May 13th in Miami, Florida. The theme for the conference was “Bringing the REEL,” a social media-based title that suggests the need to explore the effects of virtual relationships in real-life scenarios.

The conference was youth-led and adult-guided and covered various topic areas around healthy relationships and their intersectionality. This included presentations and conversations on related topics such as identifying red flags in relationships, effectively communicating with parents, and addressing cyberbullying.

Mental Health Awareness Month

GA held a month-long campaign for May's Mental Health Awareness Month to support the national dialogue around mental health and share ways to take action to improve mental health in schools, communities, and families. We held a Youth Mental Health First Aid Training for GA staff and the community to teach how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a mental health crisis and the importance of language as it pertains to youth mental health.

If you or someone you know is in distress or crisis,

call #988 for immediate access to mental health services.

GA Program Spotlight: RESIST

Project RESIST has served 187 students in the Glades region of Palm Beach County over the past school year. We are constantly seeking new community partnerships and new ways to engage our students and families. Check out how Project RESIST has been changing the lives of children and families in the Glades Region.

Family Dinner Night

On April 27th, 2023, Project RESIST hosted a “Family Dinner” at the Glades Community Central High School Library. Families engaged in conversation around communication and the importance of families having regular family dinners together to break the barriers of uncomfortable conversations. Families enjoyed a hot full-course meal while engaging in games and full discussions with their families.

Students expressed to their parents their feelings about privacy and boundaries. Families received gift packages during a night filled with love, fun, good conversation, and education to help build healthy relationships within the familiar unit.

End of Cohort Fun

In the month of April, Project RESIST took 120 students on a field trip to Palm Beach Skate Zone to celebrate the completion of the program curriculum. Some students stated this was their first time ice skating. Students enjoyed skating, a nice lunch, and hanging out with their classmates.

Community Involvement

On May 24th, Project RESIST participated as a vendor in a

Community Health Fair Event hosted by Healthier Glades Initiative in Belle Glade, FL.

Mental health resources were provided for both adults and children. Project RESIST shared program information, connected with community stakeholders,

and engaged families in Healthy Relationship conversations.
