Training in Full EFFECT

Participants of our Encouraging Full Female Engagement in Construction Training (EFFECT) program

completed their NCCER Core Construction training.

They have had tremendous networking and job shadowing opportunities in the Construction & Building Trades Industry. On September 23rd, the cohort had the opportunity to shadow the General Contractor of Stiles Construction of Ft. Lauderdale and visited a construction site of an upcoming Condo Complex located in Plantation FL.

The women were able to tour all sections of the complex from the foundation to the interior of the condo units. They were able to view the blueprints and layouts of 1–3 bedroom condos as well as the start of areas where the amenities of the complex would be provided. There, they witnessed other women working on the site in different positions completing various tasks.

The women enjoyed the experience and are eager to learn more about navigating non-traditional occupations.

Red Ribbon Week 2021

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug abuse campaign in the United States and takes place every year from October 23rd – October 31st.

The mission of the event is to support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug-free youth. Here at Gang Alternative, Inc., we will be implementing a series of activities to bring awareness of Red Ribbon Week and to encourage our youth to live drug-free lives.

Community Engagement Meetings

This month our EFFECT and UPLIFT programs successfully launched Zoom meeting sessions dedicated to engaging our community.

UPLIFT Service Partnership Meeting

Gang Alternative’s UPLIFT Service Partnership coordinates monthly Service Partnership Meetings via Zoom between local organizations to grow awareness of resources, facilitate inter-agency referrals, and build community collaboration.

The meeting on Sept 28th had guest speaker Ms. Davalyn Suarez, Esq. from Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. who spoke about "The Status of Evictions in Miami Dade County".

EFFECT Informational Sessions

Gang Alternative, Inc's Program EFFECT (Encouraging Full Female Engagement in Construction Training) hosted the first in a series of informational webinars on the implementation and education of women in male-dominated occupations.

The meeting on Sept 23rd had focused on how educational institutions can make space for women in apprenticeships and college credit courses in non-traditional occupations.

EFFECT's next informational webinar, on October 7^th, will cater to representatives of construction companies.
