2023 GA/SC Jr Girls Challenge Matches

The Cliffs @ Mountain Park

It was a beautiful weekend at the The Cliffs Mountain Park Course in Marietta, SC. The greens were perfect, fairways plush and tight. The members were out in full force cheering on both teams at the 18th GA/SC/ Junior Girls Challenge Matches.

The First round of matches was Saturday with a 1:30pm start time on the balmy day. The teams fought hard on the wet fairways after 2" of rain the night before. That didn't slow anyone done, South Carolina came out of the gate a little timid with all match play rookies on the team; however, once they got the hang of the format they rallied on the back nine and fell in love with the format. Georgia was strong and didn't let the burst of determination by South Carolina on the back nine rattle them. Georgia took the early lead in the first round with a thirteen and a half to four and half lead. Despite the scoreboard the teams, coaches, housing, and parents all got to together for a great dinner at The Cliffs Mountain Park course and a little karaoke by the Georgia Captain, Ket Vanderpool.

The Final round matches started at 8:00am on Sunday at the fantastic Cliffs Mountain Park Club course again with the weather perfect. South Carolina showed up ready to make a charge and went ahead early in the matches. Georgia's experience and perseverance proved to be to much and ended up closing out the matches about 20 minutes before the skies open up posting a two round total victory of twenty- seven and a half to eight and a half final score.
