Greetings from the President Claudio Riedi

A Word From The President
Happy Days Are Back Again!
Veronika, der Herbst ist da… With the passing of Labor Day, South Florida enters its busy business season, just in time for the reopening of the U.S. Borders to travelers from Europe. It appears, that the U.S. Government has heard the cries of the GABC (and of France, outraged over the U.S.-Australian Submarine deal), and has decided to take this unavoidable step. This is crucial for the viability of the GABC and a welcome development, and as an organization, we welcome back our European contacts.
At the same time, Germany has successfully concluded its recent election, and changes are coming on that end, too. It was refreshing to see a western Democracy pull off a closely contested election, where the results are quickly tabulated and accepted by most if not all of the voters as valid. There is much to be learned from the German experience.
With that, the GABC should revert to a more traditional business model, albeit with virtual components learned and honed during the forced Covid-19 shutdown. Last week, the GABC elected a new Board of Directors, and we are moving forward with new ideas and impulses. Our first major event in a long time will be the GABC’s Annual Festive Banquet and Fundraising Event on November 17, 2021. Please mark your calendars, and plan to attend to re-connect with your old friends. Even better: consider becoming a sponsor of the event, and significantly raise your profile in the German-American Business community.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you in November, on a balmy night with cool temperatures, good friends, and a nice glass of wine to prost Fall and the Florida Winter.
|
|
On September 27th, the GABC elected their new Board of Directors. Luckily, most of our previous Directors decided to stay on the Board and got re-elected, hence you will see many familiar faces!

Travel Restrictions: New Update!
Starting in early November, the U.S. will lift travel restrictions for some foreign nationals who are fully vaccinated. This applies to travelers from the 26 European Schengen countries, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, China, Iran, India and South Africa.
Existing requirements for permission to travel to the US remain, such as ESTA authorization or the issuance of a visa. Additionally, proof of full vaccination must be presented, as well a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to departure. Airlines will be required to collect contact tracing data from passengers traveling to the US, such as phone numbers and email addresses.
The travel ban began in 2020 under the Trump administration in an effort to curb the spread of the virus, and was continued under the Biden administration as the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant saw a steep rise in the levels of coronavirus cases.
The lifting of the ban should see an increase in demand for international travel. “International travel is critical to connecting family and friends, to fueling small and large businesses, to promoting the open exchange of ideas and culture” said Jeffrey D. Zients, the White House pandemic coordinator.
The CDC will be issuing a formal order providing the details of the new rules, the date they will go into effect, and clarification as to which vaccines will be accepted. Exceptions to the vaccination requirement include children who are not yet eligible to receive the shots.

"Hallo/Hello, my name is Steve, and I am very excited to now be part of GABC!
A little about me: I was born and raised in Salzburg (Mozart Stadt), Austria, and moved across the pond for my studies in Business. I recently graduated from the University of Florida (Gainesville) and am now living down south in beautiful Fort Lauderdale to get my career started. In the past I have worked with a tech start up as a marketer and sales representative. However, my passion has pivoted to the financial world which made me enter the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program, with the goal of leveraging my skills and experience to help others plan for and protect their financial futures.
I am very excited to finally get to meet you.
Steve"
