When Milwaukeeans think about Grand Avenue Club, they think about "a community that works!" And we certainly do work. From Monday to Friday colleagues--members and staff--work side by side doing all the work that is essential to our community. It is also well known that many GAC members are involved in paid employment with some of Milwaukee's finest employers.
What many people do not realize is that GAC is also the home of an active Art Collective, a group of 50 colleagues who share an appetite for the visual arts, writing, theatre, and film. GAC members who are part of the collective meet and have access to an Open Studio to do their work. The collective organizes art shows periodically; information about our May show can be found below. Our Writers' Group also meets weekly and publishes a journal, "Downtown Story Tellers" every December. We do hope to resume our pre-pandemic schedule of theatre and film as soon as it is possible.
Our community, and our Water St. Boutique customers, thoroughly enjoy the work of our colleagues...and in one instance, WE LOVE BEING ADORNED by art. During this challenging year, Jenny Hackbarth, an active GAC member, established her own company "Seize the Clay!" in order to market and sell the beautiful clay jewelry and other accessories and small decorative items that she has been creating and selling for years.
Jenny's work can be found at GAC's Water St. Boutique and from her directly.
We will be sending you the link for our virtual art show, "Freedom: New Beginnings Through Expression" and look forward to resuming our in-person art show openings at our beautiful art gallery, GalleryGrand, which is located on the fourth floor of GAC as soon as we are able to stand side-by-side looking at art!
