Dear Members and Friends,

The GACA hopes all is well in your part of the state. Many of you are pushing forward with school and athletics whenever possible. We thank you for your dedication and commitment!

As the Anniversary of 9/11 is on us this month we want to take a moment and "Remember" those that were lost and to the survivors from the attacks in New York 20 years ago. Special thanks to all emergency workers then and now! Take the time to thank the "First Responders" in your community.

GHSA LASTEST REPORT

GHSA Report- 9/9/2021

The SMAC had a very informative meeting yesterday; discussing how COVID is affecting each part of the State, immunization statistics from each part of the State, the different variances and how they might affect our population.

After the meeting, the GHSA will continue to follow the path we have currently without changes. Our next meeting will be in October but could be scheduled earlier if necessary.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

The focus of this edition of the GACA "Where are they now?" is Coach Joker Phillips, a long-time friend of the GACA and College Football Coach.

Coach Phillips is well known throughout the state for recruiting Georgia High School Football Players. He has supported Georgia High School Football Coaches for years during his time at Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Minnesota, South Carolina, Cleveland Browns, Florida, Ohio State, Maryland, and as the Head Football Coach at Kentucky. He currently is the Assistant Head Football Coach for North Carolina State University where he coaches the wide receivers. Beverly Sanders Raines Award

Presented to a person or persons who have contributed a supporting role in conjunction with the GACA ideas, for the betterment of athletes in his or her school, community, and the state of Georgia

Dwight Keith Award

Given in commemoration of Dwight Keith's service as

secretary of the GACA for 35 years. In recognition of his or her

outstanding overall coaching record, service to the GACA, sportsmanship,

and dedicated loyalty to the highest and best in competitive athletics.

Calvin Lee Murray Award

Given in commemoration of Lee Murray's service

to the GACA and his enduring contribution to amateur sports in Georgia.

Presented to a person or persons with a strong commitment to promote,

preserve, and strengthen the GACA through the development of our

association with activities that foster positive influences on both

Sam Burke Award

Given annually in commemoration of Sam Burke's service

as Secretary of the Georgia High School Association. In recognition of his

or her continuing interest in the youth of the nation by devotion of his

or her time and talent to preserve, strengthen, and promote high school

athletics in the state of Georgia.
