News on German-Style Apprenticeships in the United States

Welcome to the September edition of the GACC Apprenticeship Update. We have many exciting programs planned this fall and we hope you'll join us. But first, please help us extend a warm welcome to GACC South's new Director for the Skills Initiative Catherine Malone. Read more about Catherine below.

  • September 14 - October 8 and October 29 - November 23: Virtual Train the Trainer Courses
  • November 12: Virtual German American Apprenticeship Conference and GACC Apprenticeship Award

Director, Apprenticeship Networks
John Sowosh is reaping the benefits of finishing his apprenticeship with the Mechatronics Apprenticeship Program Partners (MAP2), administered by Festo Didactic. Having just completed his final exams in Mechatronics, John earned his associate degree and started his career as a Field Service Technician at VEGA.

"It's been an excellent two years of growth for me,” said Sowosh. "I'm looking forward to what comes next."

To learn more about the MAP2 program, please contact Andreas Brockmann.
New Developments
We’d like to welcome Catherine Malone, the new Skills Initiative Director at GACC South. Catherine has been with the GACC South since 2008 and joins us from the Consulting Services department, where she supported numerous German clients with their US market expansion.

Contact Catherine for more info on apprenticeships in the southeast region.
Vetter Development Services from Skokie, IL, recently welcomed two ICATT Apprentices into their new Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technician program.

Apprentices Allan Ignacio and Brendan Bolden will divide their time between on-the-job training at Vetter and classes at Oakton Community College.
Please contact Ted Lykowski if your company is interested in apprenticeships for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technicians.
We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with Festo Didactic’s MAP2 and the Space Coast Consortium Apprenticeship Program (SCCAP). Festo Didactic has contracted with the GACCs to certify the MAP2/SCCAP Mechatronics program to international standards.

Once certification is complete, apprentices will earn internationally-recognized DIHK certificates.

For more information on certification of apprenticeship programs, contact Geneva Scurek. To learn more about SCCAP, contact Andreas Brockmann at Festo or Bryan Kamm at SCCAP in Florida.
Did you know the ICATT Apprenticeship Program and the German Embassy have been collaborating on social media to spread the word about apprenticeships?

Follow the German Embassy Washington, ICATT, MAT², and the GACC social media channels to help raise awareness of apprenticeships in the US.
GACC South is celebrating the conclusion of their examination season in Georgia. Despite temporary closures of labs and worksites, the cohorts rose to the challenge to finish their exams for this year.

GACC South thanks all participants, exam board members, companies, and academic partners for their commitment to their apprentices. Pictured is Yannik Christein of Nesper International.

Please contact Kevin Lister to learn more about GACC South's examination season.
