Virtual German American Forum on
Offshore Wind Energy reflects growing industry opportunities
|
|
The Virtual German American Forum on Offshore Wind Energy took place on March 22, 2022, providing an in-depth look into the latest developments and technologies in the offshore wind energy sector on the US East Coast and in Germany.
With about 90 attendees, the event clearly demonstrated a strong indication of the public interest in this topic on both sides of the Atlantic.
As part of a virtual one-week delegation program, during which eight German offshore wind companies participated, the event featured expert speakers from Germany, who spoke about how offshore wind energy will become the backbone of the German power grid and Germany’s ambitions to reach climate neutrality by 2045. Keynote speaker Jim Bennett from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) contributed to the topic from a US perspective, which was addressed in a lively panel discussion between executives from NYSERDA, NJEDA, Rhode Island Commerce Corporation and the Business Network for Offshore Wind.

GACC NY launches Culinary Arts Apprenticeship Program in cooperation with Sussex County Community College in New Jersey
|
|
The GACC NY is pleased to announce the commencement of its first Culinary Arts Apprenticeship program in cooperation with Sussex County Community College in New Jersey. Our inaugural class of apprentices are hosted by the established local employers, Bear Brook Valley and Crystal Springs Resort.
The apprenticeship is registered with the US Department of Labor for the occupation of cook, and incorporates aspects of the German dual-education vocational training system. In addition to their workforce training, apprentices will be earning an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from Sussex. This new opportunity expands on Sussex’s existing partnerships with industry, which have incorporated internships into the degree programs. With the new apprenticeship model, students will be participating in a year-long structured training program, which will focus on growing their competence and independence in the field.
The GACC NY looks forward to working with Sussex County Community College’s dynamic and growing Culinary Arts program. Led by Program Coordinator, Martin Kester, the program will open its new training center and test kitchen on Main Street in Newton, NJ, later this year.
We congratulate Danielle Bottinelli, Katelyn Sybesma, and Nikolas Mangone for taking part in this valuable training program and thank all of our community partners for their support!

GACC NY launches Professional Experience Program to empower students
|
|
The GACC NY this month launched The Professional Experience Program, which is designed to empower students from Ostwestfalen-Lippe by helping them develop professional skills in an international context and obtain hands-on work experience in the United States.
The 2022 cohort was chosen in a competitive selection process, and the eight participating students represented a wide range of academic backgrounds, such as Computer Science; Philosophy; Electrical Engineering; American Literature & Cultural Studies; Computer Engineering; Integrated Façade Design; Sound Engineering (Tonmeister); History, Economics & Philosophy of Science.
The participants took part in a skills seminar at our downtown Manhattan office, facilitated by Cindy Klarwasser of the GACC NY. The students will now begin their internships at a company or organization in the New York metropolitan area.
We covered a myriad of topics such as: how to develop and present your professional brand; how to use your professional network; design thinking; intercultural orientation; transatlantic relations; bias as well as diversity and inclusion in the workplace; international context and the startup scene in New York.
We would like to thank all the speakers for sharing valuable insights and for interacting with the students in such a meaningful way.
