The Head of the Economic Department at the Embassy, Karl-Matthias Klause, welcomed the group to the event, expressing optimism for the Initiative, which was launched in 2012.  He highlighted many of the accomplishments from the past year.  These included the growth of GACC Vocational Training programs in 10 states throughout the US, the selection of Brose USA as the GACC Apprenticeship Award winner, and an event with the National Academy of Sciences in November.

Looking ahead, a major focus of 2018 will be defining a new Joint Declaration of Intent between the US and Germany on vocational training.  The current declaration was signed in 2015 and will expire in summer this year.  German Ambassador Peter Wittig will travel this year to Vermont on the invitation of Senator Bernie Sanders to discuss further development of vocational training.

The GACCs will continue to develop vocational training programs based on the German model, as well as exchanges to provide apprentices with opportunities for international experience.

The conference was part of a delegation trip of 7 select German companies from the Event and Concert Industry who visited New York City and Los Angeles several days this past fall. It was sponsored by the BMWi with organizational support from the GACC NY.

Program goals are to strengthen transatlantic exchanges and collaboration between Germany and the US in the concert and events industry. The German delegation met with local industry leaders, research institutions and government representatives to exchange ideas, discuss new developments and lay the groundwork for future cooperation.

Sharing industry ideas and experiences.

Music and events experts from the US and Germany were provided a unique platform to hear from high-level speakers and meet with companies from both countries to explore potential synergies. All agreed that business models are being reshaped by digitalization. Participants learned about the latest trends in the music industry, including what's being done to create new audience experiences.
