In conjunction with this year's German American Business Forum in Bielefeld, the GACC New York organized a STEP USA Alumni Party on June 8, at the FoundersFoundation building.

After three years being put on hold because of the pandemic, the alumni party marked the first STEP USA in-person gathering making this occasion a real reason to celebrate.

We celebrated with the FoundersFoundation, a very active startup accelerator funded by the renowned Bertelsmann Group. The night included an informative fireside chat, during which three STEP USA alumni shared their experiences as to how the program has impacted their continued success. The panel included Naomi Owusu, CEO & Founder of Tickaroo GmbH from Regensburg, Benjamin Zazcek, CEO & Founder of Salesviewer GmbH from Bochum and Daniel Tykesson, CEO & Founder of Ebility GmbH from Remagen.

A spirited pitch session also took place in which three aspiring startups from FoundersFoundation competed for a sponsored STEP USA ticket. The winner, Synctive GmbH from Bielefeld, will head to New York in December!

With approximately 100 visitors from the STEP USA alumni network, startups and investors, this alumni party proved to a very productive and entertaining evening.

First three in-person STEP USA programs for the year completed!
Last week, the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. hosted seven startups from all over Germany for an in-depth 4-day strategy development boot-camp and took a deep dive into New York’s fast-growing tech scene.

In various site-visits and sessions, the participants gained first-hand experience on how to successfully enter the US market and expand their network in the startup and VC ecosystem. In April and May, we successfully hosted further cohorts from Saxony, as well as Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, who also experienced our famous STEP USA program.

Overall, we so far welcomed 22 startups and 33 founders and entrepreneurs in New York City in 2022. For our popular Pitch Nights, we were excited to welcome a total of over 300 attendees. We Are Back!

For further STEP USA programs, please check our website and make sure to be part of our upcoming Pitch Nights on August 31st, and September 28th. Please see all upcoming events here

We can’t wait for our next STEPs together!
Student studies focus on small- and medium-sized German companies
On June 8, the GACC NY welcomed a group of 12 students from the Fachhochschule des Mittelstands (University of Applied Sciences) in Cologne to our Chamber. Led by Professor Ralf Bruening, the group consisted of MBA students with a focus on innovation and leadership.

This unique program takes place at the only German university with a focus on small to medium-sized companies and includes a “dual study” element of industry experience. The group’s US excursion took them around New York, experiencing the opportunities for innovators and entrepreneurs.

They paired their visit to the GACC NY with participation in the Chamber’s STEP Pitch Night, where they were able to meet both German startups visiting New York and local industry partners and investors. As they continue their studies, the students will complete business plans as they prepared to develop their own new and innovative initiatives.
