German Transportation Delegation in New York:
Smart transportation forum highlights solutions for a more innovative transportation sector
Smart transport solutions have taken on an integral role for many nations in their quest to develop sustainable, manageable transportation infrastructures. And there is no denying that energy efficiency applications must be a key component of this mix.

With that in mind, a delegation of five German companies traveled to New York City from March 18 to March 22, 2019 for a one-week program focused on energy efficiency in the transportation sector. The trip was organized by the GACC NY in conjunction with energiewaechter GmbH and sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

An intensive exchange of ideas and experiences, as well as valuable networking opportunities underscored the delegation visit, which kicked off with a briefing at the GACC NY office. On March 19, 2019, more than 90 public and private sector experts - as well as other interested stakeholders from the transportation sector - joined the German visitors at the German House in NYC for the German American Smart Transportation Forum . (Click here to read full article .)

EACC Pitch Night Focuses on Global Real Estate Tech
The GACC NY has a longstanding and successful collaboration with the European-American Chambers of Commerce (EACC), through which our various chambers support each other with myriad events.

One recent example is the latest EACC Pitch&Mix event, held this month at the recently opened Midtown Manhattan office of the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce. The theme for that night's Pitch&Mix was innovation in real estate and focused on cutting-edge European startups.

More than 100 tech enthusiasts, investors and entrepreneurs focused on the real estate industry attended the event to experience the pitches and network. Among those presenting was Jaryd Lindhein (pictured, right), who showcased the German co-living platform, QUARTERS , part of the Medici Living Group.

Pitches were also made by other European companies: Adept Realty , SquarePlan , Wec360 , Velis and 720° .
GACC NY Collaborates with Frankfurt's Handwerkskammer on Apprenticeship Exchanges
At the Handwerkskammer Frankfurt-Rhein-Main, or Chamber of Crafts (HWK) , 10,000 apprentices are learning skills to become the next leaders in 130 trades. In addition to the robust dual-education system, the HWK recognizes that additional, unique opportunities are critical to accelerating career success.
Jeanette Pittman (pictured), who organizes international programs for apprentices, knows this well. Beginning in summer 2020, she will lead a group of 20 apprentices to the US, where they will integrate into host companies and share their training experience.

The GACC NY will collaborate with the HWK to facilitate this visit. Matthew Allen, GACC NY’s Director of Careers & Education (pictured with Jeanette Pittman), visited the HWK’s training academy last month and discussed exchange opportunities for American apprentices as well.

The GACC will continue to develop programs with the HWK as well as apprenticeship opportunities in the US. Enrollment is currently open for mechatronics programs in New Jersey beginning in Fall 2019. Multiple other opportunities are available throughout the GACC network. For more information, please contact Matthew Allen at [email protected] .

GACC NY Joins Walking Tour of Williamsburg, Bklyn
As part its participation in the Young Professionals Network (YPN), the GACC NY joined a walking tour through Williamsburg, Brooklyn last month, led by renowned German architect Matthias Hollwich . Matthias is the architect of 25 Kent (building pictured on left), one of the most innovative new buildings on the Williamsburg water front.

Thanks to moderator Felix Zeltner from Work Awesome and headsets by Hushconcerts , everyone was able to follow the fireside chat between Felix and Matthias while walking through the streets of Williamsburg.

One of the tour stops included the German laundromat Celsious , where co-owner Corinna Williams enthusiastically spoke about her energy efficient laundromat. The group then headed to Domino Park, located at the historic Domino Sugar Factory, which, in the 1870s, was the largest sugar factory in the US.

A big thanks to all who joined us for this special night of insights into the architecture of Williamsburg.
