2020 Transatlantic Ruhr Fellowship takes place undeterred by this year's challenges
Congratulations to our 2020 Transatlantic Ruhr Fellows from Universität Duisburg-Essen, TU Dortmund University and Ruhr-Universität Bochum for completing this year’s first virtual program, which spanned three weeks (August 10 - 21) and focused on entrepreneurship, leadership skills training and cultural understanding. The program is organized by Peter Rosenbaum UA Ruhr New York Executive Director.

Although they could not travel to NYC due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all participants considered the virtual experience valuable, productive and entertaining!

As always the GACC NY participated in the program, with Matthew Allen and Christopher Gallagher of our Career Services division speaking to the students about business communications and resume optimization. GACC NY President & CEO Dietmar Rieg provided the students with German-American business insights.
German companies comprising the live entertainment sector visit NYC, LA virtually
Eight German companies from the event and concert industry will virtually engage in a delegation trip to New York City and Los Angeles from
October 19 – 23, 2020, to meet with local industry leaders, associations and government representatives.

The program, sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), aims to strengthen international experience transfer and collaboration between Germany and the US and offers the German delegation the opportunity to connect with their US counterparts to exchange ideas, discuss new developments and lay the groundwork for future cooperation.

One key component of the program is an online symposium which will provide an exclusive opportunity to hear from expert speakers and meet with US and German companies to learn about the latest trends shaping the event industry.

The conference will be divided in two parts, on October 19 and 20.

If you are interested in individual matchmaking with the German delegation, please contact us via consulting@gaccny.com

Startup & Entrepreneur Program (STEP) goes virtual for first time
We are delighted that our very first fully virtual Startup & Entrepreneur Program (STEP) was successfully launched on August 31st. Sixteen German companies and their 25 team members embarked on this journey with us to explore future US market entry strategies.

This virtual program was uniquely designed and adapted to the current needs of entrepreneurs with emphasis on creating an intimate community to connect like-minded German startup founders with US-based tech & innovation industry experts and to foster transatlantic connections resulting in market expansion.

Our sincere thanks to all the participants for their trust in our program, and we thank our speakers for their tremendous support in sharing their knowledge and expertise with our group.

EU Ambassador to the US reflects on transatlantic relations
What’s left of the transatlantic relationship given the strains it has faced in the last several years? That’s the opening question posed to Stavros Lambrinidis, Ambassador of the European Union to the United States by Gerry Baker, Editor-At-Large of The Wall Street Journal.

Baker interviewed Ambassador Lambrinidis for more than an hour this past week during the virtual forum organized through a joint initiative of all the bilateral European chambers headquartered in New York, including the
GACC NY.

Ambassador Lambrinidis stressed that despite the current US administration’s reluctance at times to cooperate, the two biggest democracies in the world (EU and USA) are on track to continue working together. It’s their obligation to do so, he said, to ensure continued well being and prosperity for all the citizens of the US and EU.

Trade Fairs
Virtual Trade Shows take the Spotlight
It’s no secret that since the pandemic has reared its ugly head, trade shows have been suffering. Most trade shows have either been cancelled or postponed and many postponed ones have later been cancelled.

Two of those shows – Analytica and electronica – both taking place in Munich, Germany, are cancelling their in-person trade show and creating an all-virtual event instead. Analytica, the World's Leading Trade Fair for laboratory technology, analysis, biotechnology and analytica conference, will take place October 19-23, 2020 virtually. This offers those visitors and exhibitors who cannot travel to Munich the opportunity to meet with potential clients and interested customers and still conduct international business.

There will be innovations and product premieres from all sector of the industry as well as product presentations, live conference presentations, and live contact opportunities with exhibitors via chat, text or video. You, too, can take part in this international event by clicking HERE:

Electronica, the World’s leading trade fair and conference for electronics will also take place virtually from November 10 – 13, 2020. From components to systems, applications and services: The range of exhibits at electronica covers technologies, products and solutions from the entire electronics industry. While the actual event is still being designed, the intention is to have product displays, live conferences and the ability to conduct B@B meetings via video or chat. You can find more information on electronica virtual HERE as soon as it becomes available.

  • The production kick-off for the manufacturing and distribution of Dräger’s 100% American made, NIOSH approved N95 respiratory protection masks took place recently at the company's new facility in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania. German International School New York marks 40 years in US
Happy anniversary to the German International School New York!

On September 8, 1980, German School New York (Deutsche Schule New York) opened its doors in White Plains, NY, to 64 students from grades one through five. Germany’s Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hans Dietrich Genscher, led the official dedication ceremony soon thereafter, on September 23rd.

The school primarily provides German-speaking children with an
education recognized in their home countries while incorporating an American context into its activities and perspectives. This way, the school has remained a bridge and meeting point between Germans and Americans.
