GAGOP HONORS 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.'S

"I HAVE A DREAM" SPEECH

(Atlanta, GA) - In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 's "I Have a Dream" speech, which was boldly declared from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial fifty years ago today, GAGOP Chairman John Padgett and 1st Vice-Chairman Michael McNeely issued the following statements:

"Fifty years ago, Dr. King spoke of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence as promissory notes guaranteeing the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all Americans," said McNeely.  "And despite the best efforts of Democratic lawmakers to litter the road to liberty and prosperity with big government mandates and burdensome taxation policies, "The Dream" that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. so eloquently declared so many years ago is now a reality for those who are willing to pursue it.

"Our nation has come a long way since the 1960's when Republicans worked tirelessly to pass civil rights legislation in our nation's Capitol.  But we are not done fighting.  Even today, the Republican Party - both here in Georgia and throughout the United States - continues to work together, pray together, and stand together for the sake of freedom with all Americans, regardless of color or creed."

"Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his bold, transformational leadership," said Chairman John Padgett.  "The principles of justice, equality, and liberty are just as important today as they were fifty years ago, and I encourage all freedom-loving Georgians - regardless of political affiliation - to join us in preserving the American Dream for future generations to come.

"May we always seek to live lives worthy of Dr. King's sacrifice and always work towards a better tomorrow for all Americans."
