Dear GAIN Community,
As GAIN25 draws near, our small but mighty team has been hard at work behind the scenes. With just five of us, including our two amazing interns Christine and Moritz, we’ve been planning, organizing, and fine-tuning countless details to bring this year’s conference to life. From scheduling and coordinating all the different exhibitors and speakers to designing digital components and polishing last-minute updates, every day feels like a new puzzle that we’re solving together.
It’s a lot of work, but also a lot of fun - because we know what it’s all for: three days in Boston filled with discussions, connections, and opportunities for researchers exploring career opportunities in Germany. We’re excited to share with you what we’ve been putting together and to welcome you at GAIN25 next week!

GAIN25 Digital Workshop Event
As a digital component of the 25th GAIN Annual Conference, the online workshops provide information on academic career paths in Germany.
The GAIN25 Digital Workshop Event will take place following the in-person conference on Thursday, 25 September 2025. As the virtual part of the event, it offers selected workshops on topics such as junior research groups, career paths at universities and non-university research institutions, tenure track in Germany, and discussions on careers in industry and other sectors.

The winner will receive a prize of $3,000 US Dollars presented by DWIH New York. Germany remains an attractive destination for international students
A recent DAAD survey reveals that nearly two-thirds of international students intend to remain in Germany after completing their studies. While they value affordable education, career opportunities, and English-language programs, many express the need for stronger career support and better preparation for entering the labor market. The findings underscore the importance of continued investment in career services and professional development to fully harness the potential of international talent, particularly in STEM fields.

Mit diesem Programm möchten wir vielversprechenden Forschungsnachwuchs aus dem Ausland ein Start-Paket, das ihnen den Aufbau einer eigenen Forschungsgruppe und den Wissenstransfer nach Würzburg ermöglicht, anbieten. Mit einer gezielten Förderung im Rahmen des WüConnect Programms sollen hochqualifizierte internationale Forscherinnen und -forscher aus der Medizin auf ihrem Weg zu unabhängigen Wissenschaftlerpersönlichkeiten unterstützt werden. Weiterhin soll durch den Wissenstransfer die Vernetzung und Förderung klinisch-translationaler Forschungsprojekte in Würzburg gestärkt werden.

INTERACT – Advanced Clinician Scientist Programm
Ein durch das Bundesministerium für Forschung und Technologie (BMFTR) gefördertes Programm, das klinisch tätigen Fach- bzw. Oberärztinnen und -ärzten nachhaltige Strukturen mit neuen Karriereperspektiven an der Schnittstelle zwischen Krankenversorgung, Forschung und Lehre bietet.
INTERACT verfolgt ein thematisch offenes und interdisziplinäres Konzept mit Fokus auf translationalen Schnittstellen im Rahmen des Forschungsprofils der Medizinischen Fakultät. Neben finanzieller Unterstützung für geschützte Forschungszeit sowie weitere Personal- und Sachmittel bietet INTERACT ein individualisierbares Programm zur Karriereentwicklung. Weiterhin kann man sich über die angeschlossene BMFTR-geförderte Advanced Clinician Scientist-Austauschplattform EMPOWER ACS mit anderen Advanced Clinician Scientists vernetzen und dort mitarbeiten, die Zukunft der Universitätsmedizin nachhaltig mitzugestalten und voranzutreiben.
