On the Verge of Extinction

A vanishing legacy survives in one of the rarest and most beautiful Barbaresco Riserva Releases we've ever tasted.

This wine continues to be utterly jaw-dropping with the new 2018 vintage, which we're offering at the lowest price in the country!

Eataly: $110.00

Wine.com: $100.00

Our Sale Price: $69.99

"...an exemplary wine from this vintage...

The palate is elegant and pure, featuring fine tannins and fantastic purity and clarity, with a long finish and a haunting floral perfume lingering after the wine is gone.

It’s a bottle that would disappear quickly at my table.

They only produce Riserva, as they hold back and only release the wine when they feel it is ready to be enjoyed."

I was compelled to make a 3-minute video on the previous 2016 vintage:

"One of the most distinctive wines in all of Piedmont. This is such a gorgeous wine."Antonio Galloni

  • We are one of the only merchants to receive a pittance of an allocation!

  • Owner and winemaker Natale Simonetta is Angelo Gaja's first cousin once removed

  • This is 1 of 2 wines left on Earth made from a clone of Nebbiolo called Nebbiolo Rose

  • This vineyard was planted in 1912. These 110 year-old vines and the oldest in all of Piedmont by about 50 years.

  • Only 20 rows from that planting still exist are the last of this clone.

  • Only 600 cases were made

  • Grapes are crushed by foot for most gentle extraction possible

  • Bottled with a minimum of sulfur

  • The result is an utterly beautiful Barbaresco that illuminates the delicacy for which Nebbiolo Rosé is known. It is remarkably expressive, showing even greater nuance when decanted.

  • Drink now—2046

2018 Cascina Baricchi "Rose delle Casasse" Barbaresco Riserva DOCG

96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"Medium red with a garnet hue, the 2018 Barbaresco Riserva Rose Delle Casasse is an exemplary wine from this vintage, with pure and inviting notes of raspberry, rocky earth, dried roses, and fresh tangerine. The palate is elegant and pure, featuring fine tannins and fantastic purity and clarity, with a long finish and a haunting floral perfume lingering after the wine is gone. It’s a bottle that would disappear quickly at my table. Drink 2026-2046.

Cascina Baricchi is led by the husband and wife team of Natale and Francesca Simonetta, from their Barbaresco estate. They only produce Riserva, as they hold back and only release the wine when they feel it is ready to be enjoyed. This solo current release of the 2018 was tasted at the estate in March of 2025. (Drink between 2026-2046)

93 Points - Vinous:

"The 2018 Barbaresco Riserva Rose delle Casasse offers lovely density and plenty of character. There's gorgeous depth in the mid-palate. Light fading at the edges and slight mature notes in the bouquet lead me to believe the 2018 will likely be more of a medium-term drinker, its notable presence notwithstanding. Tobacco, dried herbs, mint, leather, cinnamon and dried autumn leaves all develop with a bit of aeration. The 2018 is a gorgeous wine. (Drink between 2024-2034)." - Antonio Galloni (Oct 2024)

Aldo's Father, Giacomo Conterno, made the World's very first traditional Barolo: 1920 Riserva

Aldo served his father from the 1950s until he struck out on his own in 1969 with his own Estate.

Wine collectors call Bussia one of the greatest vineyards in Italy. The Conterno family calls it home. Barolo's Literal ICON.
