Dear Saint Michael Catholic School Community,
Hello, my name is Lauren Nederostek, and I am the President of the Environmental Team, or E-Team, here at Saint Michael Catholic School. The E-Team helps the community and environment by taking part in community activities, including community clean ups and conservation efforts. Last year, we participated in the Burgess Community Clean Up, the Lakewood Elementary School Earth Day Celebration, and a beach clean up. We also analyzed our school garbage bin, and later had an assembly and put together a presentation to inform our fellow classmates about the dangers of food waste. This year, we are focusing on compost and erosion, and have created erosion bottles, biodegradable planters, and soil free, hydroponic planters. Being on the Environmental Team has changed my point of view on waste and recycling, and I discovered how much we take for granted on a daily basis. Because of our recent discoveries regarding recycling within our school, we would like to get you involved! This year, we are introducing new monthly challenges, and
for the month of March, we challenge you and your children to use less Ziploc bags. The Environmental Team is open to all students attending Saint Michael Catholic School, and we meet on Thursdays in the Science Lab from 3 - 4pm.
Don’t Forget: God has given us the beautiful gift of the world, and it is our job as humans to take care of it, as nature does not belong to us; we belong to nature.
