Recently, Paper Excellence/Domtar acquired Indonesian-based Asian Pulp and Paper, with reported ties to the Chinese government. Paper Excellence has denied any affiliation. The impact is felt on the USA-based companies in the Paper, Pulp and Forestry industries by becoming more dependent on China & Indonesia and these countries controlling resources.

Report: Paper Excellent, the owner of Northern Pulp, is part of the corporate group of Asia Pulp & Paper and Sinar Mas.

Michael Manley, Amazon’s leader of Implementation and Transparency for the Service Provider Network, will be the keynote speaker. Manley oversees Amazon’s efforts to integrate advanced technologies to enhance operational efficiencies and visibility across the supply chain.

$109M Upgrade in Escanaba

Swedish pulp and paper company Billerud announced that it’s investing in upgrades worth about $127 million at its U.S.-based production facilities. The majority, about $109 million, will go toward its graphic paper mill in Escanaba, Michigan, where earlier this year the company canceled a project to convert the plant into a cartonboard production facility.

GBP to modernize Arkansas mill

Green Bay Packaging announced a substantial investment in modernizing its Arkansas kraft paper mill. The multi-year project enhances the mill’s infrastructure, sustainable practices, and operational efficiency. Key process components will be replaced, including recovery boiler and biomass boiler infrastructure. Plus, GBP is set to install an electric turbine generator, an integral element of the GBP decarbonization strategy.

4imprint Expansion in Oskosh

Promotional products distributor 4imprint has completed a 170,000sq expansion of its Oshkosh Distribution Center. Increased production capacity supports the company’s continuing growth and reinforces its commitment to the local community and sustainability.

The Distribution Center, home to more than half of 4imprint’s 1,600 team members, is located at 2875 Atlas Ave., Oshkosh.

Demolition Begins

The former Verso paper mill is being torn down in Wisconsin Rapids to make space for new industries. The paper mill, which employed 900, closed in 2020. Billerud bought the facility and still owns it but sold the idle areas to the Capital Recovery Group.
