GBMS Families & Community,
“You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I'll rise.”
Maya Angelou

Next week our students will be taking their third round of interim tests in Math, Literacy, and Science. We are excited to see how much they have grown and will be here to support them. Please help your students get rest and encourage them to be their best selves.

Have a great weekend GBMS families!

Celebrate
We love celebrating student success! Ms. Harms’ Advisory created a “Post About It Wall,” as a way to recognize and celebrate student successes.
DPS Survey

Please take a minute to complete the DPS Family Survey and let DPS know how we are doing. DPS wants to hear from the entire community! Families can go to this link to complete the survey.
DPS Declining Enrollment
Advisory Committee

The Declining Enrollment Advisory Committee will work to create recommendations on how the district should address ongoing declining enrollment, which impacts our ability to provide equitable, high-quality educational programs for our students. Superintendent Marrero will review the committee’s recommendations on criteria to identify, close and/or consolidate schools with significant declining enrollment.

Diversity and inclusion will be an important consideration for this task force and members will include families, students, community partners, school leaders, teachers and staff, and central office leaders.

View the online form to learn more about the committee selection criteria and submit an application.

Enrichments

Last week in the Aerospace & Rocketry class students were learning about the James Webb Telescope. See those white boxes? Aerospace was taught remotely last year and the teacher sent the supplies home with students in these boxes. Turns out they were a great tool for in person learning as well, not only keeping supplies sorted, the box lids turn into mats where students can build their airplanes and rockets safely without damaging classroom furniture!

Community

Did you know the Girl Scouts of Colorado offer a variety of virtual educational programming for all students K-12 in Colorado? Inspiring Futures is a career series where youth get to meet various professionals over Zoom and learn about their career path. Monthly Equity Talks series are virtual chats and presentations with a different topic each month that focuses on equity and justice work in different Colorado communities. There are also upcoming (virtual) events for Black History Month that are open to community members across the state including Black History Family Trivia Night, a Community Presentation on Black Women in American History, and a K12 showcase where kids and families can join us over Zoom to share what they've learned throughout February. If any of these events sound interesting you can find them posted on the Girls Scouts Website and Events Calendar.
