I am wrapping up October with compassion and kindness. I appreciate all of the hard work, dedication and commitment from our families and staff. It takes a village and we are relentlessly working together to serve our community. 

A couple of reminders: We will be having our school social on October 29th. Students may wear costumes but cannot wear costume masks or bring any fake weapons to school. Please make sure your student’s costume is appropriate. Also, if you can please remember to donate a box of masks to the front office. We appreciate all the donations so far. It has been extremely helpful in ensuring good health for everyone.

Celebrate

We want to celebrate our first week of classes for our GBMS Parents. English class was a success, we had 10 parents attend our first English class. The classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-6pm virtually. Please contact Mr. Boni Sanchez Flores, our school parent liaison if you are interested,720-690-7964. 

Also, our Spanish parenting class started this week, it’s every Thursday, in person at KBMS’ auditorium from 9-11am. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Boni Sanchez Flores.
Teacher of the Week

Ms. Amy is one of a kind. She cares deeply for our community and students. You can see her walking the halls with and giving pep talks to students. She embodies our character traits of kindness and perseverance and is always going over and beyond for our students. We couldn't do this work without you. Thank you for all you do! Grant is Lucky to have you. You are truly remarkable.
Liveschool & Beacon Bucks

Talk to your children about the number of points they have collected in Liveschool. In addition to motivating students to make good choices it’s one more step we are taking to support their financial literacy. 

We have 100 Beacon Bucks and during celebrations students will be recognized and awarded Beacon Bucks. Students can make special food and drink purchases in the cafeteria with their Beacon Bucks. 

Soon we will open the School Store for Liveschool points to be spent on rewards and eventually hope to allow students to transfer their Liveschool points to Beacon Bucks.

April 21, 2022 - Enriching Lives Fundraiser Celebration
In April 2022 we will hold our annual Enriching Lives fundraiser through an online giving campaign to raise funds to support Beacon enrichment programming. On April 21, 2022 all those who have donated to the fundraiser will be invited to attend a celebration event at the historic Grant-Humphreys Mansion in Denver’s Quality Hill neighborhood. Save the date to join us for this special event celebrating Beacon enrichments!

Developmental Milestones for Young Teens 
This is a time of many physical, mental, emotional, and social changes. Hormones change as puberty begins. They might be worried about these changes and how they are looked at by others. This also will be a time when your teen might face peer pressure to use alcohol, tobacco products, and drugs, and to have sex. At this age, teens make more of their own choices about friends, sports, studying, and school. They become more independent, with their own personality and interests, although parents are still very important.

Positive Parenting Tips
  • Following are some things you, as a parent, can do to help your child during this time:
  • Be honest and direct with your teen when talking about sensitive subjects such as drugs, drinking, smoking, and sex.
  • Meet and get to know your teen’s friends.
  • Show an interest in your teen’s school life.
  • Help your teen make healthy choices while encouraging him to make his own decisions.
  • Respect your teen’s opinions and take into account her thoughts and feelings. It is important that she knows you are listening to her.
  • When there is a conflict, be clear about goals and expectations (like getting good grades, keeping things clean, and showing respect), but allow your teen input on how to reach those goals (like when and how to study or clean).

Community Opportunities
The Family and Community Engagement Centers in collaboration with The Art of Spanish Institute LLC are currently recruiting for our upcoming Level 1 Spanish Class. This 8 week level 1 Spanish class will be held on Thursdays from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM beginning at the end of October 2021. This form will place you on our interest list. The FACE Centers will contact you to enroll. We are hosting all of our classes virtually. 
DPS is excited to invite all our families of Multilingual Learners to a virtual Multilingual Education Districtwide Advisory Committee (MLE DAC) meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 5-6:30 p.m. 

At this session, you will receive important information and resources about: 
  • Title 1 funds.
  • Graduation requirements and career success.
  • Financial aid and work-based learning opportunities.
  • The DPS Board of Education, including meeting the candidates for districts 2, 3, 4 and At-Large.

To help support the health and well-being of our adolescent students, the DPS Board of Education has voted to move to later start times for all middle and high schools for the 2023-24 school year. This initiative will mean middle and high schools will start their day at 8:20 a.m. or later, and elementary students will start their day earlier. Please join us for one of the upcoming virtual community events to provide feedback, ask questions, and learn more about why Healthy Start Times will help our Denver students thrive. Learn more here!

Health & Safety Protocols
