GBMS Families & Community,
“A little progress each day adds up to big results” - Anonymous

My team and I have been able to walk through 100% of classrooms and we have been able to see our scholars engaging in some wonderful activities. Finding the volume of a box, narrative writing, science labs, units on the importance of water and descriptive writing to name a few. Our students are learning!

As we transition back from an unprecedented year and a half, we are all grappling with the reintroduction of structure, rituals and routines and the use of technology. During remote learning your student may have had more autonomy to mute the computer, log on to netflix, or pull out their cell phone. Your student may have had more autonomy to turn off their camera and put their head down, sneak in a quick video game, not have to wear a mask, or even just go to the bathroom whenever they needed. Also, many students have not had to interact with peers on a regular basis and so the reintroduction of social skills has also been a focus.

We need your help reinforcing school wide expectations so we can get back to a cohesive community within our school. GBMS staff is also dedicated to reinforcing school wide expectations during community meetings, in the hallway and in the classroom. We are here to learn and want to ensure the safety of every student. As we individualize our instruction, we too will individualize our discipline practices and policy. GBMS adheres to the DPS Discipline policy using both restorative practices and punitive consequences. Our main goal is to repair any harm done. I am certain that if we work together as a team we will ensure our overall goal: A happy place where your student is being served both academically and socially and emotionally.

In solidarity,
Mrs. Jennifer Anderson

Ask your Student...

Wearing their mask in school! Increasing conversations around the importance of wearing a mask will ensure everyone's safety.

We are also happy to receive donations for masks. We want to continue to provide students with masks when they forget to bring them. Amazon suggestion:

Get to know your DPS Board Candidates

This week our parent council hosted two events to inform our school community about the candidates running for the DPS Board of Education in the upcoming election. In the October 5 In the Zone Education Series we learned about voter registration and all of the open candidate seats for each District. On October 7 we were honored to meet with two DPS board candidates that are running for the Southwest District 2 open seat that is being vacated by Angela Cobian. Their information is posted here.

Did you miss it? Both of these events were recorded and are posted on our Facebook page! facebook.com/grantbeaconms

Health & Safety Protocols

All DPS schools are creating safe and welcoming environments for our students and staff. We are following the guidelines outlined by the health professionals and everyone that enters the buildings follows the DPS 5. We ask that if your child is showing signs and not feeling well, please keep them at home and notify the school. If we send students home, or if your child is exposed, the school nurse or COVID-19 coordinator will contact you. You can access more information on the DPS Website: www.dpsk12.org/coronavirus/ and our website: www.bnsk12.org/healthsafety
